Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Serve as a senior level staff position in Project Financials & Systems. Primary duties include providing independently prepared and highly complex analyses of financial data and presenting it to senior management. Presentation will include options and recommendation to solve problems or improve operations. Independently identifying critical reporting needs and creating, developing, and vetting the reports and data for use by senior management. Position will independently identify system improvements and draft system specifications and manage testing results with the Controller’s Office or FM IT. System changes made will have an impact on the entire FM project process. Position will independently identify improvements or automations to the project processes, independently document and implement the process change, and hold meetings to explain the changes and impact to the project groups. The Senior Manager will delegate special projects to the analyst which will be completed independently, with minimal supervision. 

Position will become a system expert in FMS-projects, eBuilder, and KFS and provide expertise to independently identify and implement improvements and convey knowledge to other staff members. Position will use advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, macros, filters, and sorts to analyze large data files. Position will independently develop options and recommendation to solve problems or improve operations. Position will independently hold meetings with senior management. Position will prepare and independently present information to senior management. Position will represent the unit in meetings and serve as the unit’s liaison with other campus units including the Controller’s Office, Environmental Safety Sustainability and Risk, Purchasing, and Planning and Construction. Position will continue to monitor, reconcile, and close out projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
A minimum of 4 – 7 years of experience in an accounting or business operation.

Knowledge/Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply accounting and business principles and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of the university’s budgeting and accounting procedures, policies, and financial systems.
  • Ability to analyze data and convey results both verbally and in writing to management.
  • Ability to manipulate large data files through Pivot Tables, filters, sorts, etc.
  • Ability to document specifications for system development and perform testing.
  • Experience reconciling and correcting accounts.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet development, manipulation and analysis of electronic data.
  • Computer proficiency in Windows, Excel, Word, Internet, and email.
  • Ability to learn from and train others.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with a diverse employee population.
  • Ability to relate with all levels of the campus community as well as the State agencies, auditors and vendors.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in governmental accounting, project accounting, and large governmental systems is preferred.

Additional Certifications:

While a driver’s license is not required, if driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess a valid MD Class C driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than six (6) points.

The hiring salary range is: $71,080-$88,850.
