Dental Assisting Clinical Instructor/Instructor

This advertisement is for weekend Dental Assistant Clinical instructors that live in or can reliably commute to location in Cross Lanes, WV.

Qualifications

Education

Graduation from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the specialty field or subject area in which they teach. (Required unless candidate meets experience requirement listed below).

Experience

Non-occupational courses - The faculty member possesses two (2) years of occupational (i.e., practical) experience in the subject field in which they teach; OR

A minimum of three (3) years of job-related training and experience, as described above, for those instructors who are not graduates from an accredited program in the field in which they teach. (Required)

Occupational courses - A minimum of three (3) years of occupational experience in the subject field or in a closely related field; OR A minimum of four (4) years of job-related training and experience for those instructors who are not graduates from a program in the field in which they teach. (Required)

Certification / Licensure

Acquisition of any certification/licensure required by the state(s) that the applicant works in or other related field license or certification within one (1) year of hire (Required)

Responsibilities

· General Instruction:

o Provide education through learner-centered instruction that will enable graduates to fulfill the evolving needs of the marketplace.

o Relate professional/life/industry experience to learning by the continuation of professional/technical skills development, the introduction of industry perspective into courses, and the active awareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities.

o Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics as well as personal and professional development.

o Promote student morale and to create within the institution an atmosphere of “teamwork” and “success” among faculty, students and staff.

o Provide accurate and daily attendance in compliance with the institutions system of monitoring individual class absences.

Remain current with instructional tools, technologies and strategies and utilize those skills to maximize instructional effectiveness.

· Clinical Lab Instruction:

o Organize clinical/lab site for practical and technical instruction, including demonstration of skills required in the profession

o Provide instruction of clinical skills

o Facilitate student practice of clinical skills

o Assess students clinical skills/competencies

o Report skills/competency assessment results to the Program Director, following expected guidelines (time and format)

o Enforces lab area protocols, rules and regulations; maintains discipline; utilizes effective time management for clinical instruction

o Maintain a clean and orderly lab area, ensuring that waste is disposed of according to Occupational Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA) policies and procedures

o Maintain a HIPAA compliant learning environment

o Return lab to orderly condition after use

· Student Support

o Respond to student inquiries with immediacy and a sense of urgency.

o Return student work with meaningful feedback in a timely fashion that allows them to stay continuously aware of their academic progress.

o Continuously monitor student participation, engagement and progress to identify early warning signs of student challenges, and develop and implement methods for mitigating those challenges.

o Identify at-risk students, providing additional support and advising, and report them to the Program Director/Coordinator.

o Promote and, if asked, help organize various student social functions.

o Contribute to a learning culture by participating on curriculum and system task committees, supporting local campus events such as orientation and graduation, and participating in various other workshops and meetings.

· Meetings and Profession Development

o Participate in faculty meetings when scheduled

o Participate in and maintain documentation of professional development activities as directed

o Participate in and maintain documentation of in-service activities as directed

Job Type: Part-time

  • Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Bridgeport, WV: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)

  • Associate (Required)

Experience:

  • Dental Assisting: 3 years (Required)
