Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The mission of the Green River College Business BAS program is to empower students to affect our community and world by building better businesses based on creativity, abundance, inclusion, and healing. Students develop relevant business skills in a safe and dynamic learning environment that draws from their diverse experiences, and by engaging them with faculty, local business and the surrounding community.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

We are seeking candidates who are motivated and passionate about teaching business classes at a community college. We want individuals who can utilize a variety of methods, pedagogies, technologies, and modes of instruction to deliver a best-in-class learning experience to our diverse students; ultimately preparing them to make an impact in the world of work. The optimal candidate will:

  • Have experience and a demonstrated ability to teach, coach and facilitate a variety of business-related courses which may include the following subject areas: sales, digital marketing, strategic marketing, integrated marketing communications, market research and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the workplace.
  • Additionally, candidates should be able to teach courses during days, evenings, and online.

Lastly, the Business, Marketing & Entrepreneurship department encourages trust, creativity, innovation, collaboration and teamwork to promote student success. The program is looking for an instructor who works well with students, colleagues and other staff in a positive and professional team environment.

In addition to teaching, responsibilities for this role may include programmatic administration duties, marketing the program, program-specific advising, maintaining an advisory committee, program evaluation, scheduling/evaluation of adjunct instructors, curriculum development, and participation in other college and division professional activities as outlined by the collective bargaining agreement.

 

Qualifications

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience in at least one of the following focus areas: Marketing, Diversity Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace, and Sales & Negotiation.
  • Expertise in current best practices in focus area/s
  • Experience in developing and instructing content which builds cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated experience, expertise, cultural competencies, and commitment to equity in working with students, communities, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and identities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in Business, or related field
  • Teaching experience – in person, virtually and fully online

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years' experience at a medium or large company in chosen focus area
  • Canvas experience or another LMS experience
  • An organizational builder who will take initiative in leading, marketing and growing the BAS in Business programs.
  • Maintain connections with a wide network of business professionals for mentorship/project/ internship/job opportunities for students
  • Maintain connections with businesses ranging from large to local for networking/internships/ projects/job opportunities for students
  • For Marketing focus area: Understanding and knowledge of Digital Marketing Certificates relevant to students.
  • For Marketing focus area: Understanding and knowledge of Digital Marketing Certificates relevant to students.
  • For DEI focus area: Understanding and knowledge of DEI Certificates relevant to students.
  • Demonstrated experience with under-represented and under-served communities.

This is a full-time tenure-track position beginning Fall 2023, continuing with annual nine month contracts. The salary will be determined according to the candidate's educational background, teaching experience and applicable work experience. This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by The Green River United Faculty Coalition.
