Full-Time Tenure Track Instructor - Nursing

Job Description

THE POSITION

The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time tenure-track position teaching nursing courses. The two-year Associate Degree Nursing program, approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, prepares students for entry-level employment as registered nurses in hospitals and community settings. Teaching assignments will be available in the medical-surgical area with the possibility of obstetric and/or pediatric areas of the program. Faculty will be responsible for supervising students in clinical learning experiences, supervising students in campus-based nursing practice labs, seminar groups, and nursing theory classes in the first or second year of the program. Faculty may have a teaching assignment in more than one course. Faculty are responsible for professional activities such as office hours, faculty meetings, program planning and review, SLO development and assessment, student activities, preparation/research, peer evaluations, and curriculum/instructional development. Commitment to consistent participation on department, division, and college committees and to ongoing professional development is expected.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in nursing; OR

Bachelor's in nursing AND master's in health education or health science; OR

Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he/she is assigned, which can be met by: a) One (1) year of continuous full-time or its equivalent providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or b) one (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency; as set by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND

Valid California Registered Nurse License or eligibility for California licensure as a registered nurse, AND

Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Recent community college teaching experience; experience in teaching reading, developmental and transfer-level composition; ability to address the needs of students from developmental through transfer levels, especially those who are underprepared; experience developing and using innovative teaching strategies to meet student needs; expertise with current methodology in reading and composition; successful experience with different learning technologies; experience teaching and teaching/learning online; commitment to basic skills instruction; effective oral and written communication skills.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
SALARY RANGE: $60,431-89,569 (depending upon education and experience)

The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available, toward which the College and the employee may contribute.

 

Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.

Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

INTERVIEW EXPENSES

Only individuals identified for FINAL interviews are eligible for specified reimbursement. Reimbursement will be limited to economy airfare (to and from point of origin) and for meals and lodging. The maximum allocated for meals, lodging and transportation is $600. Candidate must complete a Travel Request and Reimbursement Form and submit it together with all supporting documentation to the Human Resources Department.
