DEFINITION

Under the general supervision of the assigned manager within the Office of Instruction, the Associate Dean of Student Nursing & Allied Health will lead the faculty and staff in the Nursing and Allied Health Division, support students, and ensure the quality of the instructional programs The Associate Dean will collaborate with the Vice President of Student Success and Support Programs, deans, faculty, and staff to ensure programs within Nursing & Allied Health are provided and that the District complies with all laws, regulations, and accreditation standards. The responsibilities of the Associate Dean extend to all sites and modalities including liaising with community organizations and agencies.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Associate Dean of Nursing & Allied Health must be able to skillfully manage faculty and staff and is responsible for ensuring budgeting and reporting requirements are met. This position is distinguished from other positions in that it requires knowledge of all laws, regulations, and accreditation standards that apply to diverse Nursing & Allied Health programs. These programs typically involve regulations at the County, State, and National level, certification of student competency, and student experience at clinical sites with partner organizations. Incumbents in this position support student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by providing leadership required by regulatory agencies and collaborating with local health agencies.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

Program Management

Direct, supervise, and oversee the routine daily operations of the Nursing & Allied Health Division;
Direct the development, revision, and evaluation of the Nursing & Allied Health programs;
Coordinate, develop, maintain, and implement District, State and program-level policies, rules and regulations related to the educational programs;
Act as the Director (as required by the appropriate regulatory bodies) for the Registered Nursing (RN), Vocational Nursing (LVN), and Nurse Assistant (CNA) programs;
Serve as Director for other programs in the Division, as needed and pending qualifications, when a qualified faculty member or other manager is not available;
Provide leadership in the preparation for specialized/programmatic accreditation (i.e. statistical reports, backup documentation, site visits, etc.);
Oversee the maintenance of records and prepare annual reports for State licensing boards, and other regulatory agencies;
Coordinate the program review process with the faculty and staff to ensure and maintain the quality of the programs;
Facilitate the development of the annual college planning document in collaboration with Division faculty and staff;
Advocate for the needs of the Division and communicate concerns to the appropriate Dean of Instruction;
Represent the College on boards and committees at local, regional, state, and national levels to promote and support the instructional programs;
Act as primary liaison to develop and maintain relationships with clinical facilities, advisory boards, and other nursing programs within and outside of the District;
Analyze, interpret, and utilize data to identify the current trends and student assessment measures to implement plans for improvement, and forecast services in our community and regional consortium;
Collaborate with the Nursing & Allied Health Clinical Coordinator to complete background checks and maintain student files as required;
Monitor and coordinate the use of classrooms and laboratory equipment by personnel;
Obtain and maintain agency contractual agreements.
Develop and maintain relationships with clinical facilities, advisory boards, and other programs within and outside of the District consistent with division needs;
Assist the program faculty with the selection, requisition, and receipt of supplies, equipment, textbooks, and library materials.
Review curriculum to ensure courses are up-to-date with state requirements.
Conduct faculty evaluation according to Board of Registered Nursing requirements.
Budget Management

Monitor expenditures from the current year's approved budget;
Consult with the Dean concerning expenditure needs outside the budget and all income-producing activities or projects;
Develop and present budget reports;
Develop funding sources such as grants and gifts in consultation with the Dean;
Administer, monitor, and prepare reports for the Nursing Foundation accounts, and present annual reports to the College Foundation;
When appropriate, work with the Director of Institutional Grants and seek additional outside funds and resources to support and expand Division programs.
Personnel Management

Determine need, initiate requests, and recommend employment of academic, classified, hourly and student personnel;
Collaborate with the Division Chair and the Dean on the schedule of course offerings and assignments for division faculty;
Participate in recruiting, interviewing and selecting faculty and staff;
Participate as part of the management team in faculty evaluations;
Supervise and evaluate Assistant Directors, program-level Directors, and classified staff in the department;
Encourage participation in professional development activities and appropriate professional organizations.
Assure that prospective hires meet regulatory and District requirements;
Assist in the mentoring of new hires;
Student/Program Development

Develop and deliver program-specific information sessions to recruit potential students;
Facilitate students' admission procedures and coordinate prerequisite requirements with other disciplines;
Coordinate class scheduling and clinical rotations for students in collaboration with faculty.
Coordinate with faculty and oversee new student orientations and other student ceremonies;
Provide opportunities for student input regarding program issues;
Assure consistency and accuracy for the programs, college publications, and outreach materials;
Collaborate with the Division Chair and Dean in addressing student issues/concerns;
Related Duties

Serve on District standing committees as assigned; and
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Required

Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education and/or administration.

Experience:
Required

Able to be approved as a Director of Nursing by the Board of Registered Nursing

Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.

Additional Requirements:
Provide own transportation and travel countywide.

License and Certificates:
Required Current Registered Nurse license or be eligible to obtain license prior to employment;
Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.

Additional Information
This position will have travel between the San Luis Obispo campus and the Paso Robles Campus.

SALARY SCHEDULE
Below is the full salary schedule range for this position, steps A through E. Per Cuesta College's bargaining agreement, new employees are placed at Steps A through C, which is the anticipated hiring range also listed below. Salary Schedule Range: $9,797 - $11,908 per month.
