NATURE OF THE POSITION
Under the direction of the assigned administrator, the Human Resources Technician I provides professional customer service, responsible for administrative office support, performs specialized duties requiring a working knowledge of human resources departments and the functions involved therein, as well as the use of initiative and independent judgement within procedural and policy limits. This position provides information to the faculty, staff and public.
 

Examples of Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of all personnel proceeding, records, and reports.
  2. Provides administrative, secretarial and office support and data entry to the human resources department. Assist in the coordination of the day-to-day operations and workflow of the department.
  3. Provides routing information, process a variety of documents and information, and communicates to employees, students, vendors and the public.
  4. Understands functions of other departments and makes appropriate referrals.
  5. Performs clerical work such as typing, proofreading, filling, note taker and digitally archiving documents. Performs duties requiring attention to detail.
  6. Distribute, collect and organize application material for all staff vacancies.
  7. Assist with set up and maintain personnel files for all employees.
  8. Assist with classified pre-employment testing.
  9. Assist with the student workers hiring process. Verify enrollment, GPA and semesters worked
  10. Train work-study students in assigned services areas.
  11. Process and distribute mail, packages, and faxes. Monitor office inventory.
  12. Assists with mailboxes for all employees and records of mailbox keys.
  13. Assists with the collection of data and preparation of reports.
  14. Assist with input of insurance information in all required systems and invoices.
  15. Monitor the Human Resources Department website for updates.
  16. Coordinate all conference and travel for human resources staff members. Create purchase requisitions for travel, credit cards, purchases, etc.
  17. Travel to various locations to attend staff meetings along with appropriate workshops and conferences related to assigned areas of responsibility.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational/Experience Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  2. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  3. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  4. Performs duties requiring attention to detail.
  5. Work under time constraints.
  6. Knowledge of record-keeping techniques.
  7. Proficiency in the use of standard office programs (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), personal computers, and the internet.
  8. Passage of the District’s clerical skills tests.
  9. Type 40 wpm.
  10. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  1. Associate degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Knowledge of California Community College systems and operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. The physical demands and work environment are typical of an administrative job in an office environment.
  2. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
CLASSIFICATION/SALARY
  1. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, 12 months. May include evening and weekend duty.
  2. Row 5 on the classified salary schedule.
  3. The college offers an attractive package of fringe benefits including medical, prescription, dental, vision and life insurance as accorded per CSEA agreement.
