General Purpose

Under general supervision, performs advanced administrative support for a Dean, Director or department head; creates and maintains documents, reports, records and files required for work processes; assists in budget development and tracking; performs complex scheduling and calendaring; provides staff support to committees, taking and posting agendas and minutes; coordinates event logistics; and performs related duties as assigned.

  • Provides clerical and administrative support to an administrative Dean, Director or department head; using standard office software, composes and/or types memoranda, correspondence, reports, agreements, contracts, presentations, spreadsheets, forms and other documents, often of a highly technical and sensitive nature; proofreads and checks typed and other materials for accuracy, completeness and compliance with District standards, policies and procedures; may take and transcribe dictation; ensures materials, contracts, reports and documents for signature are accurate and complete.
  • Screens and responds independently to phone calls, correspondence and email inquiries regarding a variety of department matters, occasionally of a confrontational and disagreeable nature; acts as liaison in coordinating calendar and matters between the manager's office and other departments, divisions, educational and industry partners and vendors; represents the department in important interactions with department constituencies over the phone, in person and online; provides information and handles issues that may require sensitivity and use of tact and independent judgment; prioritizes requests and facilitates the completion of time-sensitive items and the flow of information; researches requests or complaints and refers matters to appropriate staff and/or takes or recommends actions to resolve issues.
  • Coordinates administrative processes for department hiring for staff and faculty positions including submitting and tracking requisitions, assisting selection committee with materials and scheduling and preparing hiring paperwork.
  • Coordinates full- and part-time staff and faculty payroll administrative processes at the department/division level, including auditing time logs, calculating sick leave and ensuring conformance to work hour restrictions; computes and categorizes pay according to departmental/ program billing accounts; ensures accurate usage of funding codes and calculates departmental/ program billing; tracks approved vacation and sick time for departmental staff.
  • Organizes, maintains and updates confidential, specialized and technical files, documents and records including department personnel records; creates and maintains electronic and physical filing systems.
  • Creates and maintains spreadsheets and small application databases; reviews, submits and tracks requests for payments and purchase orders in accordance with District policies and procedures; assists in ordering textbooks, equipment and materials; reviews travel and conference expense forms; calculates budget usage and fund percentages; prepares budget variance reports and spending forecasts for management review; tracks multiple funding sources; may participate in grant administration functions including basic grant writing, collecting program data and generating performance reports.
  • Maintains and coordinates a variety of manager and/or division calendars; makes meeting arrangements including preparing and posting agendas and notices; prepares and distributes agendas and supporting documents to appropriate parties; takes and transcribes meeting minutes; may serve as recording secretary to a committee; prepares and distributes follow-up letters and documentation; assists with setup and cleanup for special events; contacts vendors for food orders, supplies and audio-visual equipment; handles other meeting logistics.
  • May provide administrative, logistical and technical support to the department; independently performs research as requested on a variety of topics and programs and resolves routine issues.
  • May provide day-to-day lead work guidance and direction to other staff and student aides; assigns, schedules and monitors work for completeness, accuracy and conformance with District, department and legal/regulatory requirements and standards; provides information, instruction and training on work procedures and technical, legal and regulatory requirements.


OTHER DUTIES
  • May coordinate the faculty evaluation process for tenured and adjunct faculty following established processes and procedures; creates and maintains sensitive tracking spreadsheets and personnel files; creates lists and notifies faculty to be evaluated; coordinates committee meetings, timelines, observations and documentation distribution and collection; coordinates the distribution and collection of student surveys; routes evaluations for signature.
  • Receives and inputs a variety of information into computer systems; researches information in computer systems; assists with the preparation of forms and documentation; verifies accuracy of information with third parties; tracks student and other information related to District and college services and programs.
  • May assist in developing and presenting professional development workshops/training sessions and marketing materials.
  • Provides backup for other department or division office administrative support staff including Instructional Administrative Assistants.
  • Interacts with other colleges, departments and with state and federal programs on behalf of the department/program or a student.
  • May assist with priority registration of students such as cohorts of students from a variety of instructional modes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

TEMPORARY IT Customer Support Technician

General Purpose

  • Provides technical support to end users regarding desktop, physical and virtual and network connectivity issues, including licensing updating functions; performs general hardware and software tests using diagnostic and testing equipment and communicates with vendors as needed to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Provides end-user training in the proper use of hardware, software and computer-related equipment; helps ensure end users are aware of available technologies and how to obtain support for all information technology services.
  • Delivers, inspects, installs and configures desktop computers, VoIP devices, printers, scanners, readers and other peripheral equipment and runs tests to ensure proper equipment function; may set up video conferencing equipment; configures and administers network server application software; installs and connects cables, IP cameras, wireless access points, WiFi, network cards and other networking components.

  • Keeps and maintains records of average response time, mean time to repair, end-user satisfaction and number of problems resolved within a given period to assist in the development of best practices and improved end-user support services.
  • Maintains detailed inventory records of hardware, software and computer-related equipment using asset tracking and management systems to make informed decisions about technology purchases; disposes of obsolete assets following established procedures.
  • Performs minor repairs and replaces parts on technology-related equipment; contacts computer manufacturers' technical support representatives for in-depth triage of computer issues and software, equipment specifications, repairs and replacement parts; tracks, registers and ensures compliance with equipment warranties and licenses and maintains related documentation for departmental workflow and warranty claims as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains a variety of documents including configuration information, installation procedures, standard user instructions, training materials and statistical or other reports.
  • May assist Network Administrator or Systems Administrator in creating folders, file shares and network connections; assists with active directory maintenance such as creating security groups, distribution groups, user accounts and computer accounts and applying rights and permissions to users; may assist with system administration including installing, configuring and troubleshooting operating systems, user accounts and applications.
  • Provides audio-visual support in classrooms and events; installs projector screens and ceiling mounts in classrooms; installs, configures and maintains portable units; sets up microphones, sound mixers, loudspeaker stands, amplifiers, video recording equipment and various electrical cords, power strips and associated cables for special events; performs sound checks and video checks.
  • Troubleshoots malware, ransomware, phishing and other viruses following established procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and at least three years of experience accompanying vocal or choral groups, dancers, vocal soloists or similar musical work on piano in an organized educational, professional or similar setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Formal study of the piano is preferred. A bachelor's or master's degree in piano is desirable.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance program.

Providing instruction in Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) in a variety of instructional settings and times, the instructor may be requested to accept a combination of instruction and/or program coordination duties for the LVN programs. The instructor will be responsible for:

  • Teaching a full schedule of developmental and transfer level LVN courses as assigned;
  • Instructional responsibilities for LVN program as assigned, including preparing for and instructing theory classes and hospital clinical laboratory experiences;
  • Taking lead or team member responsibilities in designated clinical settings;
  • Teaching LVN and related courses, implementing, evaluating, or modifying curriculum;
  • Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed;
  • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND

Hold a current California active license as a Vocational Nurse; AND

  • Bachelors degree from an approved school AND two years of experience as a vocational nurse within the last five years; OR



  • Associate degree AND a valid teaching credential or have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; AND six years of closely related experience, two of which needs to be experience as a vocational nurse within the last five years.

(Note: A valid California Community College Credential will be accepted, however, applicants who possess this credential must also meet the above requirements.)

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
  • Experience in general nursing with a minimum of five (5) years relevant clinical experience and two (2) recent years of acute care experience in the clinical area of instruction;
  • Preparation through education and/or experience in providing quality instruction in theory and clinical settings;
  • Demonstrated ability to objectively evaluate student performance in theory as well as clinical classes;
  • Experience in providing instruction in medical-surgical nursing;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in diverse settings (pediatric, psychiatric, perinatal, and medical-surgical);
  • Experience in or potential for matriculation in pediatric, perinatal, and psychiatric specialties;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collegial relationships with peers;
  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective liaison and to maintain a harmonious relationship and acceptance into clinical facilities (hospitals, clinics, subacute areas);
  • Possession of national certification in their area(s) of clinical expertise; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.


Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days. Duty days are prorated based upon start of assignment.

Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary is $60,678 - $91,350 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the "recommended candidates". These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

TEMPORARY Student Communications Specialist

General Purpose
Under general supervision, supports the Public Information Office with the production of outreach, branding and academic information targeted primarily to students via social media and mass email campaigns; maintains social media accounts and website pages; creates visual, video and text-based communications; and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees, monitors and creates content for the college's student social media networks; engages with social media platform users to create a positive brand message for the college;

  • Develops and maintains student email communications and e-notification programs; develops and maintains student database reporting systems for targeted communication.
  • Interacts with college faculty, students, staff, alumni and other stakeholders to develop social media projects targeting incoming and current students.

  • Sets and meets project deadlines and develops production schedules; analyzes marketing requests for feasibility of design, budget and time constraints.
