Job Duties
Athletically Related Duties:

1. Supervise and direct all aspects of the MGCCC Mens Basketball Program.
2. Supervise and direct the activities of the Assistant Mens Basketball Coach.
3. Be knowledgeable of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) rules and regulations pertaining to eligibility, recruiting, the conduct of coaches, etc.
4. Recruit and supervise student-athletes with integrity and with a professional attitude.
5. Sign student-athletes who possess high character and are talented basketball players.
6. Serve as an active member of the Perkinston Campus administrative and faculty team.
7. Monitor athletes in the dormitory and establish a regular bed check schedule. Ensure all mens basketball student-athletes have appropriate housing when dormitories are closed.
8. Monitor athletically related scholarships and ensure all members of the mens basketball team have the correct amount of athletic aid applied.
9. Coordinate off-season weight and agility programs in conjunction with the Director of Strength and Conditioning.
10. Ensure that all student-athletes in the mens basketball program are adequately advised for academic or career/technical instruction in conjunction with the athletic academic advisor.
11. Ensure the classroom performance and progress toward graduation of all student-athletes on the mens basketball team is monitored and is satisfactory.
12. Work with four-year colleges and universities to assist student-athletes in obtaining scholarships after graduating from MGCCC.
13. Ensure that all practices are designed and operated to provide quality instruction and conditioning.
14. Serve as public relations representative of the college through an active role in public speaking and other P.R. opportunities as coordinated by the College Office of Institutional Relations.
15. Establish, coordinate, and manage a basketball summer camp for high school and middle school students.
16. Participate in institutional fundraisers when necessary. Actively seek fundraising opportunities for the mens basketball program.
17. Ensure proper use of the gymnasium. Address basketball facility maintenance issues in a timely manner.
18. Qualify for Region postseason appearances.
19. Establish a culture of academic and on-the-court success. Compete for and win championships on the court. Compete for and win conference academic team of the year awards.
20. Establish strong recruiting ties with high school coaches and student-athletes in the state of Mississippi.
21. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Dean of Athletics and Campus Vice President.

Academic Instructor Duties:

1. Accept and carry out to the best of your ability extracurricular supervision and duties assigned by the administrative staff.
2. Make necessary preparation for all classes that you are assigned to teach. Strive constantly to improve the methods, content and value of each course taught, at all times striving to better understand the students and their needs for the present and future.
3. Assume responsibility for teaching, in addition to the subject matter, good citizenship, respect for the rights of others, respect for school property, and the proper attitude toward the college, both in and out of the classroom.
4. Attend faculty and other meetings scheduled by the Campus Vice President or department chairperson.
5. Give tests on the days assigned by the examination schedule unless permission has been received to do otherwise.
6. Establish office hours to be available for student conferences, student advisement and give tutorial assistance to students when necessary. Schedule and maintain office hours according to college policy. This schedule should be posted on the office or classroom door.
7. Counsel students when there is an opportunity, realizing that the individual instructor often has the finest opportunity for effective guidance.
8. Maintain necessary records on all students and make timely reports as requested by the department chairperson or Campus Vice President.
9. Serve as a public relations agent. Each contact, whether with a student or with a member of the community, is of importance in the public relations program.
10. Make use of counseling office services and materials so that your teaching will be more effective.
11. Teach all classes as assigned by the class schedule. Classes shall be met when scheduled and for entire period of time scheduled.
12. Work with the department chair on annual Goals and Objectives, Strategic Initiatives, Standards and Measures, etc.
13. Maintain a familiarity with learning resources services available to the department and make recommendations for LRC improvements via the department chair.
14. Meet professional development units as required.
15. Attend computer sessions as deemed appropriate by supervisor.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair, instructional dean, and Campus Vice President.

Job Description
The head mens basketball coach shall be responsible for the supervision of the mens basketball program. The head mens basketball coach will have direct responsibility to the Dean of Athletics. The assistant mens basketball coach reports directly to the head mens basketball coach.

Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) A Masters Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning; (M2) A demonstrated record of championship coaching experience at the state or national level; (M3) Strong communication skills, managerial skills, and organizational skills; (M4) A record of compliance with applicable athletic governing rules and regulations; (M5) Strong recruiting ties in the state of Mississippi.

Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Teaching experience at the collegiate level; (D2) The ability to conduct a quality off-season conditioning program; (D3) Demonstrated competency in technology; (D4) An understanding of and a commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy; (D5) 3+ years of collegiate head coaching experience; (D6) High school or College head coaching experience in the state of Mississippi.
