Child Development Early Childhood Education Instructor FT Faculty - 10 months

Job Description

DESCRIPTION

This position is a full-time tenure track, 10 month classroom teaching assignment in the Social & Behavioral Sciences Division. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and/or hybrid format, evening and or Saturday classes.  

 


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Teach fifteen lecture hour equivalents per semester in Child And Family Education/education using various teaching methods including demonstrations and active learning strategies.
  • Maintain five office hours per week, including regular posted office hours, which are accessible to students.
  • Responsible for preparation time
  • Participate in faculty/division meetings; yearly program review; curricular planning, development, and implementation; student learning outcomes: data collection and writing action plans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance to advance the college's mission and strategic goals.
  • Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.
  • Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
  • Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Travel between District locations is also expected.
  • Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child-development/early childhood education, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child developmental/early childhood education. OR Bachelor's in any of the above, AND Master's in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology , bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies OR the equivalent.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.
  • Teaching experience that reflects culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Successful experience teaching Child and Family Education at the college or university level.
  • A strong "generalist background" and teaching experience in the field of Child and Family Education including Early Childhood Education, Early Learning ages 0-5, Preschool ages 3-5.
  • Teaching experience and academic background in one or more of the following: Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Education, Early Learning ages 0-5, Preschool ages 3-5.
  • Experience using a learning management system (LMS)
  • Experience in developing and revising curriculum, assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in program review documents.
  • Mastery in design and application of formal and informal assessment and evaluation of student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes Ability to create instructional curriculum according to approved course outlines applying knowledge of TPE and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department and college.Minimum of 3 years experience in early learning classrooms ages 0-5.
  • Experience in grades K-12.
  • Experience in dual enrollment.
  • Experience in Teacher Preparation Pipeline Programs.
  • Grant development experience.
  • Effective in collaboration with discipline faculty, students and colleagues.
