Innovative academic offerings include bachelor’s, master’s, post-masters, DNP, and Ph.D. programs that are preparing nurse leaders of today and tomorrow at campus locations in Newark, New Brunswick, and Blackwood, NJ. The Rutgers School of Nursing consists of approximately 110-120 tenured/tenure-track and clinical faculty and 90 full-time staff. This includes faculty and staff in nine unions and encompasses faculty and staff from the former UMDNJ and Rutgers.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Specialist for the School of Nursing. The Business Specialist for the School of Nursing (SON) Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program reports to the Director of the SON-EOF Program and is responsible for the fiscal and human resources operations of the SON-EOF Program.
Among the key duties are the following:
  • Stays abreast of changes in EOF regulations, institutional contracts, Rutgers’ policies, and procedures, and participates in ongoing related professional development.
  • Prepares state and institutional financial and expenditure reports, and budget compilations for submission to the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) for approval.
  • Responsible for reconciliations and maintains an expenditure shadow system and audit files.
  • Oversees all Program purchases (quotes, bids, etc.), payments, prepares contracts, and coordinates onboarding with SON-HR for all staff for the Summer Institute and Pre-Junior Clinical Program, student staff during the summer and academic year, and handles any PTL and Class 4 appointments during the academic year.
  • Provides administrative support to the SON-EOF department by organizing, coordinating, and supervising daily unit operations.
  • Ensures efficient triaging, processing, follow-up, and completion, of all of the financial reports, personnel paperwork, and clerical tasks for the Program.
  • Serves on the leadership team of SON-EOF.
  • Will also serve as the SON-EOF liaison to the SON Finance department, Office of Student Accounting, Billing, and Cashiering, Payroll, and the Rutgers EOF Administration Office.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, business administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • Requires five years of relevant professional experience that includes budget and account management experience, and familiarity with university Cornerstone modules, financial data warehouse, and payroll.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • The individual should have demonstrated oral and written communication skills along with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • In-depth understanding of personnel and budget.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Access, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, and students, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks in an environment of constant interruptions, and to be able to rapidly rearrange priorities according to deadlines.
  • Accounting experience is required, due to the level of budgeting and fiscal management.
  • Must be a team player and independent thinker.
  • Individuals should also have a level of compassion for student challenges and hardships along with being a good communicator and having excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of University Human Resources professional development workshops.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, databases, and systems.
  • Familiarity with Cornerstone and HCM strongly preferred.

  • Microsoft Office: Excel & Word
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to carry up to 25 lbs and access offices using stairs.
Special Conditions
  • Must be available to work some nights and weekends, and be available during the Summer Institute.
