The basics of this position:

The English Department/ESL Program at STLCC is seeking a full time temporary ESL instructor to begin August 2023 and end May 2024. The fall semester teaching assignment will be on the Forest Park Campus and the spring semester will be on the Meramec Campus. Preference will be given to those with community college experience in teaching English as a second or third language. The desired candidate will have a Masters degree or higher in TESOL, Linguistics or other related field. The new ESL temporary faculty will have experience teaching academic writing, low intermediate to advanced grammar and English listening and pronunciation skills. The successful candidate will be confident using technology and practice varied teaching techniques. The new temporary faculty will reach students where they are and guide them to the next level of English in the four skill areas.

What you'll do:

• Instructors are responsible for instruction, grading, record-keeping, and compliance with legal and institutional obligations. Instructors should expect to meet all deadlines and to regularly use standard software, including the Microsoft Office suite, as appropriate. Instructors must conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.
  In addition to providing excellent instruction, all faculty members are expected to adhere to the following specific requirements:
  
  
  • Maintaining the appropriate number of office hours at times of day convenient for students;
  • Providing meaningful, timely responses and feedback to students work and questions;
  • Meeting all department and college deadlines;
  • Maintaining accurate records of student attendance and reporting attendance as required;
  • Keeping careful grade records throughout each term in Canvas;
  • Reporting both midterm and final grades on Banner Web;
  • Attending scheduled faculty meetings and training sessions;
  • Successfully completing policy-related tutorials;
  • Checking messages and college voice mail accounts on a timely basis;
  • Responding to messages and requests from students and administration within the 24 hours immediately following receipt; and
  • Complying with all provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Education, experience, and other requirements:

Requires a Masters degree in TESOL, Linguistics or related field, with experience in teaching academic English.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prefer Community College Teaching Experience.
• Prefer experience teaching immigrant and refugee students.
