Pittsburgh Technical College is a private, non-profit, regionally accredited institution committed to a higher standard of educational excellence focused on academic and professional success. Located on a beautiful 180-acre campus in in Western Pennsylvania, PTC was founded in 1946. PTC awards associate and bachelors degrees and certificates within 10 Schools and 30 Programs. PTC offers a college experience that is empowering and culminates in internships and clinical rotations for on-campus, degree-seeking students.
 
PURPOSE OF JOB
This position provides public safety services to the College community. The primary objective of the Public Safety Officer is to provide a safe and secure environment for all members of the College community by means of an alert and vigilant prevention patrol.  This position requires carrying a firearm. A Public Safety Officer patrols assigned areas of property used, owned, or occupied by Pittsburgh Technical College.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Patrol campus buildings to assure proper security, including, but not limited to, locking, and unlocking of facilities; deterring theft, vandalism and loitering; and general buildings and grounds security issues.
  • Patrol PTC campus property by vehicle and foot.
  • Respond to calls for service, including fire alarms and other emergencies on campus.
  • Act as a first responder when medical situations occur.
  • Report observed safety irregularities such as presence of unauthorized people, fire hazards, leaking pipes, unsecured entries, and faulty equipment.
  • Write reports and maintain accurate records of incidents that are encountered.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or an appropriate related field preferred but not required.
 
EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS
  • 2+ years of related professional experience, or an equivalent combination of professional and educational experience, preferred.
  • Act 120 Training – preferred, not required.
  • Act 235 Certification - required.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications must be up to date.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Split Shift 7p-3a
  • This shift may cover 3p-11p or 11p-7a dependent on vacancies in the schedule.
  • 40 hour work week. Schedule will vary based on departmental needs. Schedule will require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required.
TRAVEL
  • Very minimal local, off campus travel.
ADDITIONAL FACTORS
  • Must wear PTC Public Safety uniform; provided by department.
  • Duty Belt, firearm, and additional duty gear not provided by department.
  • Must have valid drivers license and car insurance.
  • Must pass the PA Act 153 background check, criminal background check, and motor vehicle check prior to employment.
  • Designated Campus Security Authority
Additional qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have the ability to physically carry out the duties of the position, including emergency response.
  • Must enjoy working with people, both internal to PTC and guests from the public.
  • Must work in a way that displays honesty, sound judgment, integrity, and a sense of responsibility.
  • Must provide 3 Professional References
