Job Description

Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a tenure-track Accounting/Business Instructor. This position is part of the Professional Studies Division. We are looking for a person prepared and interested in teaching a variety accounting and business courses.

Salary placement for candidates with a master's degree and five (5) years of experience directly related to the position begins at $66,856 for a 173-day contract, September to June. Additional degrees, experience, and state-funded and negotiated increases will increase the salary. This position is eligible for a legislature funded High Demand stipend. Essential Job Duties

Primary essential responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Prepare and teach a variety of Business and/or Accounting courses. Teaching assignments are based on college needs and may include day, evening, weekend, online, hybrid, and on/off campus assignments.
  • Conduct ongoing development, revision, and assessment of curriculum that reflects innovative pedagogy and advances in the industry; research and identify educational resources and tools.
  • Engage in assessment activities to meet the requirements of the College, program, and course-level student evaluation.
  • Provide access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.
  • Provide academic and program advising for students; assist students in planning an educational program and in selecting courses, and when necessary refer students to appropriate student services for assistance.
  • Work with the Business & Accounting program advisory committee; develop industry collaborations and partnerships.
  • Maintain required licensing and WA State vocational teaching certification.
  • Maintain an educational environment that promotes student learning and success.
  • Instruct, assist, and motivate students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
  • Adapt to a variety of teaching situations including diverse student abilities and preparedness.
  • Participate as an active member of working committees dealing with instruction, college-wide and department assessment, student matters, and/or college-related concerns.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and students of diverse backgrounds and be a contributing member of the campus community; maintain positive and effective communications with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Provide advice and support for adjunct faculty in conjunction with the Division Chair and program staff and administration.
  • Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, development, and conduct.
  • Other duties as agreed to with division chair or administrator.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

At the time of application, all applicants must possess the following:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Business Education or closely related degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and value for the contributions that a diverse workforce can make to the success of both organization and the students we serve.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or more years of work experience in business and/or the accounting profession.
  • Experience teaching at a community college.
  • Experience teaching business and/or accounting courses.
  • CPA or CMA Certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the role of the community college in education.
  • Experience implementing innovative teaching methods such as inverted instruction, coordinated studies, team teaching, active learning, or computer-aided instruction.
  • Experience implementing strategies to improve student success and retention.
  • Experience with online learning, hybrid courses, and learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.
  • Demonstrated multicultural experience (fluency in other languages, work experience, or literary/cultural/travel experience) which add breadth and depth to teaching
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency

COMPENSATION:

Salary placement for candidates with a master's degree and five (5) years of employment experience directly related to the position begins at $66,846 for a 173-day contract, September to June. Placement on the negotiated salary scale is based on a combination of education and relevant work experience. Additional degrees, experience, and state-funded and negotiated increases will increase the salary. This position is eligible for a legislature funded High Demand stipend. Stipend amounts are negotiated with the BBCC Faculty Association. The current stipend amount is $9,000. This position is exempt from overtime.

This is a union represented position subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Placement on the Salary Index Matrix (SIM) is in accordance with the BBCC Faculty Association Negotiated Agreement.(Download PDF reader)
