The Academic Resource Center (ARC) invites applicants to apply for part-time employment as a professional tutor. The ARC provides academic support to all students enrolled at Brightpoint Community College, Becoming Brightpoint. The ARCs primary goal is to create an open atmosphere of learning for all students. We assist students in numerous academic disciplines through a variety of tutoring techniques by addressing students individual needs. This position has a maximum of 29 hours per week and hours may vary. The professional tutors will work on the Chester and/or the Midlothian campuses to assist student tutors and students in a wide variety of subjects. At this time, we are actively recruiting for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) tutors. Professional tutors will work one-on-one with students or in a small group setting. Professional tutors will act as a resource for student tutors and work with staff to develop training materials, and online resources related both to subject matter and tutoring practices. Professional tutors will model expectations, hold student tutors accountable, take attendance of student tutors, perform occasional administration duties, and maintain a professional academic environment. Professional tutors may be asked to assist with additional tasks to support faculty and staff, such as embedded tutoring and campus and virtual workshops.

Minimum Qualifications:

Prior tutoring experience required. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Must be able to work days, evenings and weekends at either of the BCC campuses, as needed. Successful completion and passing of criminal background check is required. High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associates degree or higher strongly preferred. Experience in an educational setting, preferably in high school or college, strongly preferred. Experience with software such as Tutor Trac or Navigate, and learning management systems such as Blackboard or Canvas. Experience with Microsoft Office. Experience working in an academic resource center or equivalent.
