We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Dean of Nursing & Allied Health located at our campus in Menifee, CA.  Under the direct supervision of the Vice President Career Education, Nursing/Allied Health & Counseling, the Associate Dean of Nursing & Allied Health is responsible for the administration of all nursing and allied health programs under the Health & Wellness Pathway, in accordance with local, state, and national regulatory agencies and guidelines.  Responsibilities include the supervision of clerical and support staff, full and part time faculty, program expenditures, budget management, and campus and clinical facilities for the nursing and allied health programs.

This is an administrative position, exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, with responsibility for formulation and recommendation of district policies, regulations and budget decisions related to the area of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements and duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this class.

  • Assist faculty with the development of:
    • instructional class and clinical site rotation schedules and determines staffing priorities and teaching assignments for the nursing and allied health programs
    • program goals and policies; develops new programs and alternative scheduling based on industry, community, and college input
  • Assist:
    • faculty with facilitating developing, implementing, and evaluating of curriculum.  Proposes curriculum revisions based on results of program evaluation, changing community needs, changing national, state and local standards, and accreditation requirements
    • Program Directors/Coordinators with the collection and analysis of data for annual reports
    • in the development and management of all  nursing and allied health program department budgets
    • Program Directors/Coordinators with planning and facilitating all nursing and allied program committee meetings and faculty workshops
    • Program Directors/Coordinators with planning and participating in student orientation activities
    • Program Directors/Coordinators with managing all aspects of self-studies and re-accreditation processes to maintain continuous accreditation status for all nursing and allied health programs
    • with the development of program goals and policies; develop new programs and alternative scheduling based on industry, community, and college input
  • Develop instructional class and clinical site rotation schedules and determine staffing priorities and teaching assignments for the nursing and allied health courses
  • Coordinate, direct and participate in all activities involved in planning, developing organizing, implementing, evaluating and managing the allied health programs and special department projects
  • Evaluate program needs for equipment, facility, and learning resources
  • Produce documents needed to procure equipment and learning resources as well as changes to the facility
  • Participate in the hiring processes for full & part-time faculty with consideration given to diversity in ethnicity, gender, clinical specialty, experience, and regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Supervise, evaluate, and participate in any disciplinary action deemed appropriate for full & part-time faculty
  • Direct:
    • and facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum.  Proposes curriculum revisions based on results of program evaluation, changing community needs, changing national, state and local standards, and accreditation requirements
    • the orientation of new faculty, and coordinate faculty compliance with all nursing & allied health third-party regulatory mandates
  • Work with faculty to ensure that master course outlines and syllabi are current and consistent with state, college and external regulations
  • Manage disputes, complaints and concerns of classroom and clinical faculty/student issues, including communicating and directing student admission and/or dismissal decisions
  • Serve as the Department liaison, maintain compliance with accreditation and legal standards of the various regulating agencies
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Faculty, Associate Faculty and Classified Professional employees
  • Ensure that all student files comply with applicable third party regulatory agencies
  • Conduct ongoing systematic program planning, evaluating, organizing and implementing assessment of student success
  • Act as the liaison between the nursing and allied health programs and local schools, colleges, healthcare facilities, professional organization, and community leaders
  • Participate in, and support the faculty in, the continued development, implementation, coordination, and reporting functions of all nursing and allied health programs
  • Travel to all District locations, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Master's degree (attach transcript); AND
  2. One (1) year of professional experience (within the last five years) in a leadership role reasonably related to the administrator's assignment; AND
  3. Three (3) years of professional experience as an administrator overseeing nursing and allied health programs; AND
  4. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Master's or higher degree which includes course work in nursing, education or administration
  2. Five (5) or more years of professional experience in clinical nursing, nursing administration or nursing education
  3. Three (3) years of documented successful experience related to teaching adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation
  4. Current/unencumbered California RN license
  5. Three (3) years of professional experience in the management, coordination or leadership of an academic program or services, preferably in a nursing and allied health environment; at a post-secondary setting
  6. Three (3) years of professional teaching experience in Nursing, curriculum development, or counseling
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage financial resources with a record of fiscal responsibility and accountability
  8. Demonstrated advocacy for students and students' needs
  9. Familiarity with California Education Codes and California Regulations
  10. Familiarity with accrediting bodies mandates of nursing  and allied health programs


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with travel from site to site. 

Physical: Primary function requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and travel from site to site; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 20 pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. 

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment. 

Hearing:  Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 

Initial placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with education and experience, along with a cell phone allowance stipends.  Administrators serve district-wide and may be assigned to the San Jacinto Campus, the Menifee Valley Campus, the Temecula Valley Campus or any District facility.  Additional openings that become available prior to the end of the hiring process may also be filled from the qualified applicants.
 

Academic administrators serve under contract and make contributions toward STRS (a retirement plan).  Benefit package includes comprehensive medical, dental and vision plans, life insurance, sick leave, and 22 days of vacation per year.  As a condition of employment candidates will be required to complete a live scan for fingerprint clearance and a Tuberculosis (TB) test/Tuberculosis Risk Assessment form developed by the State Department of Public Health.   Candidates must have an insurable driver's record.

THE COMMUNITY
The area provides a diverse geography that includes recreational lakes, mountains, desert and wide-open spaces.  MSJC is located about 100 miles southeast of Los Angeles and 50 miles west of Palm Springs. There is freeway access to ocean beaches, skiing and cultural offerings in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County. Weekend recreational opportunities are a few hours away in Las Vegas, Arizona and nearby mountain resorts.  Local theater productions and art galleries provide year-round entertainment, including the famous Ramona Festival and Pageant.
