Job Summary
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, perform a variety of duties associated with the coordination of state, federal and local financial aid assistance programs.

Essential Duties/Functions
The duties of this position will include but are not limited to assisting the Financial Aid Director to:

  • Interview students seeking financial assistance; perform needs analyses; assist in packaging of awards, which includes completion of Federal, state and private scholarship applications.
  • Accept financial aid applications and forms; review for completeness and accuracy; verify information reported on student applications to determine eligibility for various awards.
  • Operate a computer and financial aid software to update and maintain student records and prepare award notifications and other related reports.
  • Apply financial aid policy to identify students who have exceeded funding limitations; assist in process of financial aid appeals.
  • Maintain level of confidentiality regarding documents received and other matters involving students and financial aid in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Interpret, apply and comply with federal and state regulations governing student financial aid.
  • Inform and administer student scholarship opportunities, which includes marketing and awarding of scholarship funds, and the eligibility reporting to donors and/or the North Carolina Community College System.
  • Maintain current knowledge of guidelines/regulations related to financial aid.
  • Respond to technical questions and provide financial aid eligibility information to students, staff and the general public.
  • Maintain close working relationship with Admissions and Records, Counseling, Student Support Services, Testing, and other campus offices as well as other college or agencies.
  • Maintain office inventory and reorder forms and supplies when needed.

Education and Experience:

  • An associate degree from a regionally accredited institution and one or more years of financial aid experience preferred.
  • Ability to organize successfully/accurately and prioritize a wide variety of assignments, with emphasis on processing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under deadline requirements.
  • Computer literacy in the use of personal computers is required.
  • Ability and a functional knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, or database management.
  • Ability to operate copiers.
  • Maintain complex filing systems and records.
  • Excellent analytical problem solving and customer service skills.
  • Ability to read and understand federal and state regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student body.

Hourly Rate: $15.00
