Job Description

Glen Oaks Community College is a quality provider of education programs serving the needs of residents and businesses of St. Joseph County and beyond. In the community since its formation in 1965, the campus sits on 320 acres of land in rural Centreville, Michigan. Since its beginning, Glen Oaks has conferred over 10,000 degrees to over 8,000 graduates. Todays students study in over 18 transfer and applied associate degree programs and another 20 certificate programs in areas ranging from business and healthcare to computers and agriculture. Glen Oaks is the only community college in the state of Michigan to offer an on-campus farming program and an Agricultural Equipment Technology degree program.

Glen Oaks seeks a full chemistry faculty member who will join a team of dedicated faculty to meet the needs of our students and community. The successful candidate will partner with faculty to grow science opportunities and will help develop new programs and cross-discipline partnerships in the areas of agriculture, business, computer sciences, water, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full-time faculty participate in curriculum development, program revisions, program evaluations, textbook selection, teaching in the classroom, evaluation of student achievement, and other matters as assigned within the mission, core values, and purposes of Glen Oaks.

Curriculum:

  • Develop current and relevant curriculum in the Science Department collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Determine intended course student learning outcomes and develop learning activities, course materials, and assessments necessary to achieve course outcomes in the classroom and/or online learning environments.

Instruction and Advising:

  • Provide timely, constructive, and thoughtful feedback to students.
  • Submit student grades and class records according to the College policies.
  • Maintain regular campus presences through office hours and cooperative attendance and participation in departmental and institutional meetings and committees.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends in the professional discipline and of best practices in educational methodology through continuing professional development.
  • Complete required GOCC training as necessary.

ACADEMIC AREA:

The Science Department at GOCC offers a wide range of courses. In addition to traditional classroom environments, the college provides online offerings, and faculty members are encouraged to design delivery modes and explore innovative pedagogical methods that will increase student success and retention.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Chemistry, or Masters Degree in another science discipline with a least 18 graduate credit hours in Chemistry.
  • Successful college-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability/disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in Chemistry
  • Community college teaching experience
  • 18 graduate credit hours in Biology, Physics, or Agronomy in addition to a Masters Degree in Chemistry.
