Summary:
Full-time, tenure-track non-teaching faculty position (12 month). The primary responsibly is to hire and supervise tutors who provide a program of tutoring assistance in writing and related subjects in-person and live online. Additional responsibilities include being a collaborative member of a team, college service and ongoing professional development. Experience working with diverse community college students.
 
Primary Function: Plan, implement, and evaluate appointment-based and group tutorial services in support of student writing assignments for courses provided at Northampton Community College. Collaborate as a member of the Learning Center Core Staff to achieve the goals of Center and of the College to promote student achievement and retention.
 
Responsibilities: (1) Recruit, select, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate best qualified tutors available. (2) Coordinate with faculty in recruitment, training, and evaluation of tutors; market tutoring and academic services to students; and monitor progress of students receiving tutorial assistance. (3) Work as LC Core Staff member on delivery of general services and on data collection, analysis, and reporting on students using LC services. (4) Conceptualize, develop, and deliver tutor training programming and other professional development projects for Learning Center tutors. (5) Collaborate regularly with relevant campus groups on projects of mutual interest including the Humanities/Social Science cluster, ESL, and the library. (6) Implement special projects, in consultation with supervisor, reflecting goals appropriate to the position.
 
Performance Standards: Performance is considered satisfactory when: (1) mutually agreed upon objectives have been attained within specified time frame; (2) responsibilities have been carried out at a level consistent with performance objectives; (3) effective cooperative relationships exist with college faculty, staff, students.
 
Organizational Relationship: Responsible to Director of the Learning Center for performance of assigned duties.
 
Qualifications: (1) Education: BA/BS in English/Reading from a college or university with a Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) approved Institutional Accreditor; MA/MS preferred; (2) Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Candidate should possess: organizational and communication skills; adaptability to a changing educational environment; current knowledge of language-skills pedagogies, learning strategies, and the ability to learn and become proficient in the use of technology, including Learning Center specific software, as well as expertise in functional use of MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook required. (3) Experience: Tutoring experience in a secondary or post-secondary environment and supervisory experience required; tutor training experience and teaching experience preferred.
