Position Summary

 

The College and Career Pathway Instructor is responsible for the day-to-day instruction and supervision of adult learners. These individuals are attending class for the purpose of improving basic skills to obtain a career or industry recognized certification/credential or to improve their skill level needed for their current employment. A major emphasis in this program is to become gainfully employed and/or to retain employment.
 

The College and Career Pathway Instructor administers assessment instruments to diagnose, evaluate, and place adult learners in the career pathway best suited for their goals; teach in both traditional and distance education formats; and submit reports and data as required.

Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System salary schedule D3 (100% Grant Funded).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:

 


  • Performs classroom instructor responsibilities including but not limited to: Creates College and Career Pathway syllabi for classes; Plans and implements activities for College and Career Pathway classroom; Instructs College and Career Pathway participants in independent study modules for career readiness skills, ensuring that participants are instructed in appropriate skills areas as identified in career and academic assessments; Conducts pre- and post-tests on participants in the program to measure skills improvement and success; Conducts Career Inventory assessments; Prepares accurate documentation related to grades, participant progress, files and program efficiency and effectiveness; Creates and disseminates in-person and virtual career guidance for all adult learners; and Refers students to other agencies as necessary.
  • Provides instructional workshops on various topics such as: financial literacy, career pathways, time management, preparing to enter the workforce and/or college, goal setting, problem solving, coping skills, becoming proactive, etc.
  • Provides career pathway coaching/navigation and goal setting instruction to students, ensuring goals are realistic and achievable.
  • Maintains appropriate records including but not limited to: Maintains a spreadsheet of active students and their career pathway status; Gathers follow-up information on program participants.
  • Serves as a transition specialist and navigate students through the college admissions process (admissions application, transcript requests, placement testing, FAFSA, WIOA, scholarship applications, etc.)
  • Assists with career advising of program participants.
  • Assists in program recruitment and publicity efforts.
  • Assists Program Coordinator in reports related to program instructional components.
  • Assists Program Coordinator in assessing participant strengths and weaknesses for preparation of individual training plans.
  • Connects College and Career Pathway students with potential employers as opportunities arise.
  • Establishes positive rapport and supportive relationship with program participants.
  • Establishes positive relationships with adult education students to provide instructional support by identifying barriers to success.
  • Maintains knowledge of College and Career Pathway curriculum updates and provide other facilitators with information.
  • Maintains knowledge of resources available to students throughout local service area and provide instruction to students regarding access to resources.
  • Assists with the AAESAP program including but not limited to: Assists with career pathway student data entry in AAESAP; Contacts student inquiries in AAESAP and promote Adult Education; and Assists with student follow-up and AAESAP data entry.
  • Works closely with adult education, career technical, academic faculty, and other departments as needed to monitor students progress.
  • Maintains knowledge of credit and non-credit college programs and provide campus tours.
  • Maintains a flexible working schedule to service both day and night classes, as well as off campus classes.
  • Represents the college and College and Career Pathway program in a positive manner to community and educational organizational within the service area.
  • Substitutes in the classroom as needed.
  • Manages a part-time class as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications
 

  • Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and off-campus sites as needed.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with computer programs and software.
  • Ability to work well with others in an innovative team environment.
 

Preferred Qualifications

 


  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience at the K-12 or higher education level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Adult Education and life-long learning.
  • An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Commitment to all students and faculty including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Experience in multimedia presentation of classroom lectures and laboratory activities.
  • Demonstrated speaking and writing skills.
