PAY RANGE:
$50,000 to $55,000, depending on experience and education, FT, 40 hours per week, 12 mos.; benefit eligible

SUMMARY
The Disability Services Coordinator provides services for students with disabilities. The Coordinator determines eligibility and reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and ensures equal access to educational opportunities, programs, and activities offered at FVCC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Serves as the ADA and Section 504 compliance officer for students. Provides leadership in coordinating support and services for students with disabilities to ensure compliance with the Vocational & Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
  • Provides presentations in classes to student groups and community groups, and faculty.
  • Provides pro-active, regular, consistent, individualized academic and personal support to a caseload of TRIO students throughout their FVCC experience.
  • Provides comprehensive academic advising services including, helping students set and achieve appropriate academic goals either in-person or through other means.
  • Develops individual accommodation plans in consultation with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintains confidential records of accommodations.
  • Coordinates accommodations to include, but not limited to: alternative testing, audiobooks, note-takers, ASL interpreters, and assistive technology.
  • Remains current on disability-related legal issues in higher education; including policy formulations, implementation, and compliance through continuing education and guidelines set forth by the Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD).
  • Works with students to resolve issues and problems not addressed at the program level to aid students in achieving their academic goals
  • Promotes disability awareness on campus.
  • Participates actively and with initiative in continuous improvement efforts to provide efficient and quality student recruitment.
  • Promotes, encourages, and executes programs of continuous assessment and benchmarking of goals, programs, and services and communicates the results.
  • Fosters cooperative relationships with schools, community groups, and other external agencies to enhance and promote the College.
  • Assists and collaborates with staff on projects or events as needed.
  • Serves as a member on various college committees or teams.
  • Remains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignment.
  • Attends related trainings, workshops, and professional development.
  • Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed.
  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing in the community in college-related activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to the Dean of Student Success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Counseling, or other related program, AND
  • Minimum of one year of experience providing individualized instruction, OR counseling, OR rehabilitation work, OR
  • Bachelors degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Counseling, or other related program, AND
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing individualized instruction, OR counseling, OR rehabilitation work
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two years of demonstrated experience in providing disability services, including working in a higher education setting, knowledge of ADA, and section 504 disability compliance
  • Experience working with Universal Design/assistive technology
  • Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorders, learning disabilities, and ADHD/ADD in educational settings
  • Experience working in a TRIO program at the post-secondary level, and/or related work experience with federal or state grant programs
  • Experience supporting mental health and wellness individuals and groups
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of technology used in a learning environment.
  • Proficient computer skills and basic understanding of student information systems and Microsoft Access database system.
  • Knowledge and skill in designing, managing, or implementation in the fields of individualized instruction and teaching.
  • Strong commitment to providing quality customer service and collaboration by creating a welcoming and supportive environment for a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work with students, colleagues, and supervisor in a collaborative and professional manner.
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.
  • Ability and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and community.
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.
  • Ability to follow and issue directions.
  • Demonstrated communication, technology, presentation, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules including evenings, weekends, etc.
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency.
  • This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
