We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Computer Systems Specialist position located at our campus in Temecula, CAUnder the direction of the Supervisor, Technology Support Services or designee, the Computer Systems Specialist leads the work necessary for the maintenance of PCs, peripherals, and related equipment. Incumbents personally perform difficult and responsible computing functions that may involve the analysis, engineering, design and maintenance of end user compute devices.  Incumbents are responsible for computer equipment, software, documentation, inventories, and coordination of activities and productivity in their assigned area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the order, structure, administration of computer systems
  • Responsible for assigning, designing and implementing computer systems solutions and related projects
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software and other problems ranging from simple to complex
  • Install and maintain hardware, software and client images
  • Encourage adherence of Acceptable Use Policies including ethical use of software and hardware
  • Perform preventative maintenance; configuration, troubleshooting and repair of client computer and related equipment
  • Keep abreast of current and emerging technologies pertinent to the college
  • Balance security practices with effective learning/working environments
  • Research and secure quotations of equipment, software and hardware
  • Consult staff and students within the college as needed regarding safe and standard operation of client computer systems 
  • May perform functions related to leading the work of technical staff
  • Optimize operating systems and platforms to enhance computer performance for users
  • Effectively communicate, orally and in writing; with faculty, students, administrators, and staff to coordinate successful completion of projects

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


The incumbent should possess knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices and methods in:
    • techniques in the design, installation and operation of computer equipment, devices and cabling
    • systems administration and hardware maintenance
  • Theory and principles of computer hardware and enterprise deployment
  • Computer operating systems and their configurations
  • Software deployment automation
  • Theory and principles of data architecture and network design
  • Client-server processing requirements

 

The incumbent should possess skills in:

  • Working effectively as a team member
  • Meeting schedules and timelines
  • Communicating effectively both orally and in writing
  • Maintaining documentation and records
  • Handling multiple assignments simultaneously and set priorities based on customer needs


 The incumbent should possess the ability to:

  • Develop and maintain back up recovery plans and incorporate security
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports
  • Make sound independent judgments within established guidelines
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including those from a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Bachelor's degree; AND
  2. One (1) year of professional experience using hardware and software similar to those used at the District; AND 
  3. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

 SUBSTITUTIONS Substitutions for meeting the minimum qualifications for the education requirement are allowed as follows:

  • Education equivalent to an Associate's degree in Information Technology (or related field); AND
  • Two (2) years of professional experience using hardware and software similar to those used at the District

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (or related field)  
  2. Two (2) years of successful lead experience 
  3. Experience with: 
    A) Operating system and application deployment using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager B) mobile device and application management via Intune
  4. Experience with network operations, support, or maintenance  
  5. Experience working in a higher education environment 
  6. Experience with virtual and cloud based systems and orchestration 
  7. System administration experience with course management systems (I.E. Canvas)


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Environment:  Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with travel from site to site.   The incumbent must be able to work in a fast paced office environment with background noise and a high stress level.   May work in physically uncomfortable and unclean areas.   

Physical:  Primary function requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and travel from site to site; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 45 pounds; safely climb ladders while carrying up to 45 pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.   

Vision:  See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.   

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
