Summary of Position

The Child Development Center at Keene State College invites applications for an Early Childhood Teacher in the preschool classroom (a multi-age grouping of sixteen 2.9 to 4.11-year-olds) to work in partnership with the center staff to achieve highest standards of quality for children, families, and college students. This is a benefited, 86%-time position with appointment dates from mid-August to mid-June each year.

The Child Development Center (CDC), located on the Keene State College campus in Elliot Center, is a demonstration early childhood education site for Keene State College students, practicing professionals, and young children and their families. The Center strives to model best practices by offering nurturing environments where young children are encouraged to explore, to be creative, to cultivate positive relationships, to experience the joy of learning, and to develop a sense of community.

The CDC is a dynamic learning community dedicated to providing excellent practical experiences for students studying to enter the teaching profession, or a related profession, with young children. Undergraduate and graduate students are offered supervised experiences under the guidance of early childhood professionals, in the direct education and care of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. Through collaboration, the CDC staff contributes to an educational environment that encourages professionalism, growth, and diversity. Under the guidance of the Director of the Child Development Center, the successful candidate will plan, implement, and model best practices in early childhood programs for children, families, and college students. The Early Childhood Teacher also mentors and assists in the supervision of college students and creates and participates in mutually supportive and respectful relationships between all members of our community. The ideal candidate will possess strong social and collaborative skills, and will have a keen understanding of an emergent, play-based curriculum, and an appreciation for the benefits gained therefrom.

Other minimum qualifications

Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or closely related field and 3 years teaching experience with children ages birth through 5 years and 1 year classroom supervisory experience or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or closely related field, Minimum 4 years of teaching experience with children ages birth through 5 years old and 1 year supervisory experience. Demonstrated interpersonal communication, supervisory, and organizational skills. Must meet NH Child Care Licensing lead teacher qualifications and have sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this position, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in a laboratory early childhood center, NH Credential, Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification. Additionally, the College has identified desirable qualifications that support our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse campus community including the ability to speak a second language or to bring a multicultural perspective to the campus.

Salary is commensurate with experience, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, retirement, tuition, and paid time off. This position is part of the Keene State College Staff Association (KSCSA).

Duty/Responsibility

Supervise all academic students placed in the classroom. Serve as the Cooperating Teacher for Practicum and Student Teachers. Support EC college teaching and oversee the student employee program in the classroom.

Duty/Responsibility

Coordinate, plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, model appropriate child guidance, foster positive relationships with team members, children, and families. Facilitate team meetings on a regular basis. Maintain general communication with all classroom families. Oversee programs for all children and families in classroom, assessment of children, recordkeeping, referrals for special education and assist director in maintaining a safe and clean physical environment, including maintenance requests.

Duty/Responsibility

Meet monthly with the CDC Director, complete annual evaluations process. Participate in Student Employee meetings. Attend CDC staff meetings, participate on committees and special projects. Follow and uphold all procedures and policies of the Child Development Center and Keene State College. Ensure supervising and teaching with the most updated professional knowledge and information by attending conferences, workshops and keeping current with course literature. Assume administrative designation in director’s absence.
