Job Description:
The Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) falls under the division of Student Engagement, Inclusion, and Success (SEIS). The CDI aims to provide an inclusive environment that is committed to cultural and social awareness of the Aims student population. The CDI helps to cultivate a sense of belonging, providing an affirming space for students, especially for marginalized student communities at Aims. The Program Manager I for the CDI supports students identity exploration and engagement in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) work, while remaining aware of current and relevant topics/practices related to diversity, equity, inclusion with an intersectional analysis that is used to inform programming and develop a set of practices for student engagement. Responsibilities: Design, deliver, and assess programs and services that address the interests and needs of historically underrepresented and marginalized student populations. Promote student development through mentorship in leadership opportunities offered through CDI programs. Plan and implement programs, events, workshops, and campaigns that provide a sense of place for all students and bring awareness and education of various social identities and DEIJ issues. Administrative support duties include, but are not limited to: provide support to the CDI Director and staff of the CDI; assist students and the public; compose routine correspondence, meetings, perform bookkeeping functions, CDI space upkeep, as well as office supplies and inventories.
 
Oversight of Program Management & Center for Diversity and Inclusion:
  • Demonstrate a pre-existing knowledge of various DEI related topics and concepts that adds to the breadth of possible programming, services, and communication strategies the Center for Diversity and Inclusion can implement.
  • Design, implement and execute culturally responsive programming and/or events for all students.
  • Develop and execute efforts to engage all historically underrepresented students including, but not limited to: BIPOC students, religious minorities, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities, Veterans, refugee and immigrant students, etc.
  • Engage diverse populations of students in opportunities that promote leadership, cross-cultural interactions, and sense of belonging.
  • Serve as an advocate for student related issues of equity and social justice, leading with a holistic and intersectionality of identities lens.
  • Research, educate, assess and synthesize information related to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice issues to enhance best practices for student programming, engagements, and events.
  • Administer all aspects of student programming, event management, engagements and official functions related to objectives of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion such as training and workshops for students that prepare them to engage in the diversity of the Aims community and greater community.
  • Develop and maintain standard communications and extensive communication plans to students, faculty, advisors, and the college community related to CDI programming, events, days of remembrance and awareness.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Center for Diversity and Inclusion department and other functional areas within the college to research and resolve student issues and concerns.
  • Evaluate reporting and make data-driven decisions regarding efficiency.
  • In conjunction with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion functionality, manage the day-to-day operations of the center in the Student Commons.
  • Work with campus constituents to know and understand campus functions and what events are happening in the building and campus wide.
  • Support the mission of the CDI in accordance with the purpose, mission and vision of Aims Community College
  • Provide back up as needed.
 
Center for Diversity and Inclusion Processing Support:
  • Research and resolve concerns with student, programming or event data, including leading any clean-up projects as necessary.
  • Pulling and reconciling data via institution systems including Banner, Workday, Campus Connect/Presence, etc.
  • Data integrity support and processing of multiple student survey items including satisfaction, quality assurance, resource connection, feedback/suggestions, etc.
  • Provide support in the forecasting, allocation, justification and tracking of fiscal resources, making strategic decisions on the best utilization of the allocated budget and reconciliation.
  • Collect and maintain accurate information and resources included for HLC evidence and CDI web page management.
 
Supervision of Student Employees:
  • Hire, train, support, evaluate and supervise student staff within the Center for Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, allocation of work, project coordination and communication plans to student staff.
  • Assign, direct and coordinate the work of student staff within the CDI and at programming, volunteering, activities, engagements and events.
  • Schedule staff to provide adequate coverage for the CDI and some Aims sponsored events based on established service hours.
  • Conduct planning and evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain training, manual, and reference materials for systems and functions that are related to the Center for Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Work with teammates who supervise student staff to ensure consistent expectations within the department.
 
Other Duties as Assigned:
  • Respond to a variety of basic questions from students and the college community.
  • External Aims community outreach and coordination as needed in order to maintain positive working relationships with other personnel.
  • Follow state and federal laws related to data retention of student records.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with legislative requirements such as FERPA.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by the Center for Diversity and Inclusion Director.
  • Assist in testing of the ERP System and any other third-party systems associated with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion department.
  • Serve on department, division and institutional committees as assigned by the Director of the CDI to enhance the student experiences, especially of those who hold marginalized identities.
  • All other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in Ethnic Studies, Sociology, or related field plus three (3) years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • OR
  • Bachelors degree in Ethnic Studies, Sociology, or related field, plus one (1) years of related work experience or or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Experience in student services or customer service related environment
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills necessary to interact with the general public, sensitive to the needs and concerns of diverse student populations
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in managing and administering an allocated budget
  • Experience in student supervision
  • Masters Degree in Ethnic Studies, Sociology, or related field.
  • Experience working in a higher education/postsecondary institution setting
  • Experience in diversity related programs
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish

Minimum Payment Amount:
$48,431.00
 
Employees in these positions may be asked to participate in temporary assignments lasting less than 6 months (such as curriculum development, short term projects, meetings and substitute duties) which could amount to additional temporary pay.
