Job Summary

The individual in this position manages donor-directed scholarship activities of Midland College and ensures the development and successful implementation of a college-wide scholarship program that supports enrollment. The Associate Director of Scholarships works with deans and department heads, various administrative departments, and committees to optimize the enrollment and net revenue impact of institutional and foundation scholarships. The Associate Director coordinates with College outreach efforts, the Financial Aid Office, and instructional departments to ensure the effective promulgation of the scholarship program as part of the overall student recruitment effort. This position is also responsible for overseeing the accurate batching of donation receipts and works at a mastery level with the donor database to input, retrieve and manage records.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including making effective presentations before large groups of students and parents
Knowledge and sensitivity to issues related to recruiting and retaining a diverse student body
Computer literate with mastery-level knowledge of database software
Strong project management skills
Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment and detail-oriented tasks
Must be familiar with College instructional programs
Work in a team environment with multiple, sometimes changing priorities
Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a business-related, public administration field
Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations regarding scholarships and student financial aid
Two or more years of experience working in a community college setting with donor relations, financial aid, or scholarships

Essential Functions

Exercise independent judgment in working directly with students and donors to make the best match of private donor funds for specific academic needs
Ensure that the scholarship awarding process runs effectively and that student and donor needs are met
Manage all institutional scholarships, including foundation donor-directed scholarships, the MC General Scholarship Fund, departmental scholarships, and Early College High School @ Midland College scholarships
Promote the College’s scholarship program to students, parents, high school counselors, and others
Maintain scholarship web pages and publications
Develop and manage scholarship application forms that provide information to relevant departments and committees on a timely basis and coordinate with other offices to plan and implement scholarship events
Ensure the effective use of departmental scholarship accounts by disseminating relevant information regarding scholarship applicants to instructional deans and department chairs
Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations by coordinating with the Financial Aid Office in the preparation of required reports
Plan, manage, and implement transfer scholarship efforts
Manage and oversee the accuracy of the College’s donor database, including developing and maintaining procedures for batching, inputting records and retrieving records
Communicate with staff in the Financial Aid department regularly
Oversee and lead efforts for the annual scholarship donor appreciation
Remain competent and current by self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required
Competent in the use of software applications used by the College
Mastery-level knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations regarding scholarships and student financial aid
Other duties as assigned

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive from office to other locations on and off campus
Office setting
Duties indoors and some outdoors
Ability to work extended hours as needed, especially during the months of August and September
Travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Min Salary

$45,000 per year (annualized salary)

Max Salary

$50,000 per year (annualized salary)

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
