Job Summary

The Custodial Services Supervisor 2, under close supervision of the Custodian Coordinator, is an important position to the college because all duties performed are visible and contribute greatly to the environment and overall appeal at each campus and in each building. This position possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of custodial services to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for all campuses and sites operated by Salt Lake Community College (SLCC).

This position requires a broad range of work, sometimes complex and non-routine, in a variety of environments. This position interacts with and influences custodian team members, uses discretion in identifying and resolving complex problems and assignments, and determines when problems should be escalated to a higher level. This position will ensure that all SLCC, Facilities and Custodial required training is completed and maintained to provide the consistent, reliable, and timely facilities support to the College by the custodial services department.

This position has a regular schedule but requires flexibility and must be available to work on call for snow removal and other building clean up emergencies, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Regular hours 10 pm – 6:30 am

This position is considered a Supervisor level position but will also be expected to perform all duties of custodian positions as needed.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in the job recruiting, hiring, corrective actions, disciplinary, and termination processes.
  • Complete and maintain all SLCC, Facilities, and custodial required training.
  • Assist with the required training for all employees.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports on college policy, general procedures, and duties (skilled manual labor).
  • Supervise and lead direct reports by giving clear and concise instructions.
  • Verify and approve payroll hours.
  • Assist in assigning work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (Sprocket).
  • Coordinate and communicate the scheduling of Custodial Special projects with Custodial Coordinator to create a positive working environment.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining effective preventative maintenance programs.
  • Remove snow and ice around entrance ways and steps of buildings. Maintain all sidewalks at entrance ways and remove snow and/or ice at said locations to avoid College closure.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience:
    • High school diploma and six (6) years of related full-time experience.
    • Associate’s degree (60 credit hours completed) and four (4) years of related full-time experience.
    • Any combination of the above using substitutions.

  • Note:
    • Substitutions for education/experience on a 1:1 basis.
    • Part-time direct work experience may be substituted for full-time work experience, on a pro-rated basis.
    • Must have a valid UT Driver License.

  • Knowledge of custodial practices and operations.
  • Knowledge and implementation of Team Cleaning methods.
  • Ability to effectively lead/motivate employees.
  • Ability to work independently, or with a team.
  • Ability to complete time sensitive work.
  • Ability to learn, teach and train.
  • Knowledge of hiring, disciplinary, and termination process.
  • Management and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to the safety requirements of OSHA and ISSA.
  • Ability to read and understand SDS label/sheet.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to working effectively under pressure, with multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Computer and data entry skills.
  • Basic MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track work orders.
  • Ability to safely move 75 lbs., position oneself to perform Custodial duties and, safely use a ladder on a regular basis.
  • Basic knowledge of custodial equipment maintenance and tool usage.
  • Ability to operate different types of custodial and moving equipment.
  • Must be willing to respond to campus emergencies during off-hours as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with custodial and event setup duties as needed.

  • This is a “night shift” position with hours of 10:00 pm-6:30 am
