Job Summary

 

This position exists to provide management and leadership to functions and services related to the Student Affairs Division. The Dean of Student Affairs provides leadership and direction in recruiting, admissions, advising, financial aid, retention, counseling, Title IX issues, and degree completion of CEI students. This position advocates for student success systems and student life for the college. This individual should understand the complex situations community college students face, especially the escalating mental health issues that have arisen since 2020. The Dean of Student Affairs reports to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs.

 

Typical Job Functions

 

  • Advocates for staff, students, and other stakeholders in the mission of the College of Eastern Idaho
  • Monitors enrollment patterns, cost/benefit information, employment, and other developments and suggests changes to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs.
  • Oversees and directs the recruitment process and provides methods to attract new students, especially rural students
  • Oversees and leads the retention of students
  • Leads the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT)
  • In conjunction with Academics, creates a positive environment for teaching and learning for students
  • Regularly directs and evaluates staff reporting to this position
  • Participates in marketing and information planning of the various departments
  • Participates in CEI Academic Standards Committee
  • Oversees and directs the budget for Student Affairs
  • Oversees Counseling & Disability Services
  • Leads non-academic student misconduct disciplinary hearings
Student Affairs Leadership
  • Advocates and represents the department on committees, councils, and task-forces at the college, local, state, and national levels
  • Provides input in setting the College Strategic Plan
  • Coordinates the department in Student Affairs to ensure that student "on-boarding" is streamlined and effective
  • Coordinates the connection between Financial Aid, Admissions, Business Office, and Foundation to support student success at CEI
  • Researches and implements "best practices" for Student Affairs policies and practices
Collaboration
  • Collaborates with the Director of Early College and the Instructional Deans to recruit and retain high school students and to develop close relationships with high schools
  • Networks closely with Student Affairs colleagues throughout the Idaho higher education system
  • Works with all members of the Vice Presidents Council to ensure cross campus collaboration

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the area of student affairs, teaching discipline, education, educational administration/management, counseling, or a closely related field
  • In depth knowledge of Student Affairs and in meeting the needs of student success, retention, and completion
  • Three years of experience in student-related services
  • Incumbent must reside in the State of Idaho upon commencement when hired

 

Additional Desired Qualifications

 

  • In depth knowledge of Title IX
  • In depth knowledge of the Cleary Act
  • Knowledge of Maxient software
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Sitting, standing, walking, keyboarding, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, gross manipulations (involves hands) and standing or sitting (combination). Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.

Background Investigations:

Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and/or motor vehicle background investigation depending on the position. Please refer to Policy 225: Background Checks.
