Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the Test Proctor’s responsibilities include welcoming and checking in examinees, verifying ID, and administering a variety of exams diverse in format and instruction. The proctor monitors candidates during testing. The proctor works and interacts effectively with students, instructors, and college staff to create a secure, efficient and courteous testing environment.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

-Greet testers and verify ID’s
-Provide instructions to student(s) regarding exam(s).
-Seat examinees and launch exams.
-Proctor exams, including monitoring examinees via video surveillance.
-Ensure integrity of exam material and act quickly during exam misconduct.
-Walk around testing areas to monitor for academic misconduct.
-Handle and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
-Organize and file exam materials both in paper and electronic formats accurately.
-Look up student information in College Information System(s).
-Enforce and uphold polices and procedures firmly and courteously.
-Ability to work in fast and stressful environment(s).
-Provide accurate and consistent information in a concise and professional manner.
-Provide excellent customer service to all.
-Must be able to multi-task and resolve issues as they arise.
-Assist departmental personnel with other duties as needed.
-Maintain cleanliness of check-in and testing areas.
-Operate office equipment.
-Answer phones.
-Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED equivalent
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written (ability to read, speak and write English).
Must be able to work scheduled hours.

Preferred Qualifications

Some college
1-year office, reception, or customer service experience, experience working with confidential information.
Working at a previous testing center and familiarity with SLCC a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent organizational skills.
Basic computer skills.
Dependability and reliability a must.
Must be detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.
Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written (ability to read, speak, and write English).
Must possess ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of people/clients (students/staff/faculty).
Must be team-oriented and possess the ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
Able to anticipate needs and manage time wisely.
Ability to perform duties with limited supervision.
Ability to manage conflict in a calm and effective manner.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software.
Must be familiar with general office methods and techniques including filing systems.
Knowledge of college policies, procedures, operations, and information system helpful.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, abilities, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the college.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Special Instructions

Shift hours are Monday – Thursday 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Friday 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm. Hours may vary due to various circumstances such as periods of high testing volume, staff absences, etc.
