Director Instructional Initiatives

Job Description

Job Summary

The Instructional Initiatives Director directs initiatives and coordinates activities in support of student-centered learning principles throughout the College that will impact Instructional Services and Student Success.  Works with College Instructional Leaders, and Program Coordinators to create and promote opportunities for students to participate in activities designed to increase retention and persistence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist Instructional Services with educational development preparation strategies and participate in meetings which address these principles.

Work with Instructional Services and Instructional Leaders to track student progress for the awarding of academic certificates and degree programs.

Work with Instructional Deans, Program Coordinators and Department Chairs in the development and implementation of Guided Pathways in all instructional areas.

Work with Instructional Services to assist the OER Program Coordinator, as well as other instructional initiatives.

Work with the Office of the VCIS to oversee the election of Chairs, Associate Chairs, and Program Directors every three years and as needed between major elections.

Lead updates to the Faculty Handbook on an annual basis to ensure it stays current working with Faculty Senate and the Instructional Services Leadership Team.

Maintain the Instructional Services webpages on the HCC website as well as MyHCC up to date working with the Instructional Leaders and faculty.

Provide leadership in the development and implementation of programs as appropriate.

Report to the VCIS team, as appropriate, on plans and progress involving student persistence, completion, placement rates, and if appropriate, accreditation status and licensure rates.

Manage grant-funded activities, including calendars and timelines.

Attend stakeholder meetings.

Document class results and evaluations for faculty and students.

Gather and maintain the integrity of administrative data and write monthly progress and closeout reports.

Coordinate College and outside personnel (including school district partners) involved in grant development and implementation.

Coordinate and communicate effectively with Resource Development and Grants Accounting staff to ensure effective grant management.

Manage and perform technical, analytical and related tasks for the collection, interpretation, aggregation, and evaluation of data; incorporates data for grant reporting and management purposes.

Prepare and submit accurate and timely grant reports for federal, state, local and private Foundations.

Participate in technical trainings provided by funding agencies in an effort stay informed of changing grant standards and guidelines.

Prepare and monitor administrative budgets and expenditures in consultation with the appropriate Instructional Leader.

Serve on College and District committees as appropriate.  Act as liaison with District, State, and Federal governing bodies regarding HCC programs and practices as needed. 

Participate in and, at times, administers grant funds (as applicable) to achieve expected outcomes.

Serve as the budget authority for assigned program areas.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree required
  • 5 years teaching experience at the community college level required, including 1 year in a leadership role in a higher education environment
  • Experience engaging faculty in Student Success Initiatives preferred        

Licensing & Certification

  • Valid Texas Driver License

Working Conditions

General Office.  Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner.  Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements.  May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
