Description

The Director of Counseling and Wellness provides leadership for the Counseling Center and for contacts at the Telehealth Vendor, spearheads health-education for students across the college, creates student pathways to community wellness resources, oversees the Mental Health First Aid & QPR (Question, Persuade Refer Suicide Prevention) training programs for SF faculty and staff, and represents the Counseling Center on various committees. The Director serves as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team and reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversee the provision of counseling services to students through the SF Counseling Center. Services include assessment, evaluation, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, as well as crisis intervention.
  • Develop policies and practices to enhance the efficacy of the Counseling Center, prioritize mental health, and normalize help-seeking behavior.
  • Support the demand for counseling services by maintaining a caseload of students and providing individual or group counseling as needed.  
  • Organize regular offerings of Mental Health First Aid & QPR (Question, Persuade Refer Suicide Prevention) training programs for SF faculty, staff, and student organizations.
  • Provide consultation services to administrators, faculty, and staff as they work with students who would benefit from counseling and mental health services. 
  • Provide leadership and support for Counseling Center staff (1 coordinator, 3 counselors, 1 administrative assistant).
  • Facilitate the provision of physical health services to SF students by the Telehealth Vendor. Coordinate with the Telehealth Vendor to comply with the contractual agreement for delivering health care services for Santa Fe College. Work with partners to resolve issues and renew the Telehealth Vendor contract at the end of each term.
  • Build partnerships across campus and throughout the community to support student wellness. Partners include faculty across campus, the Ombudsperson, the Disabilities Resource Center, Student Life, Athletics, The Learning Commons, Advising, the Career Exploration Center and others. 
  • Lead assessment efforts in the Counseling Center using best practices in learning/program outcomes. Collect and analyze data, create reports, and implement changes to improve student wellness and student use of services. 
  • Remain relevant on best practices in student mental health and student physical health through professional association affiliation and involvement.
  • Facilitate outreach programs, presentations, workshops, and other educational opportunities for the campus community to disseminate information regarding the Counseling Center and Telehealth Vendor services. 
  • Manage departmental budgets and effectively allocate resources.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring and orientation of new staff in the Counseling Center. Evaluate the performance and position requirements of staff. 
  • Other duties as required.
Reports to: Vice President for Student Affairs

Qualifications

Required:  Master’s degree in counseling or a closely related discipline. Licensed to practice as a mental health professional according to the regulations of the State of Florida or eligible to become licensed prior to start date.  5 years of clinical experience, with at least two years on college campuses. Eligible to become Qualified Supervisors for LMHC, LMFT or LCSW in the state of Florida. 
Additional Requirements:  A criminal background check will be conducted.

  • Analytical Aptitude & Problem Solving - able to analyze information, problems, situations, practices and/or procedures, collect and interpret data, reason logically, establish facts, identify and define existing and potential issues, recognize the interrelationships among elements, draw valid conclusions, develop recommendations, as well as alternative courses of action, select appropriate course, follow up, and evaluate.
  • Ethics – able to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, civility, and a high degree of ethics in all job-related actions. 
  • Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.
