Job Summary

Concurrent enrollment (CE) liaisons provide information, resources, and support to high school CE adjunct teachers to help them effectively deliver college courses in the high school and teach their students how to successfully navigate the challenges of higher education. Liaisons perform instructor evaluations, coordinate professional development training, and work closely with the assigned Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) academic departments to coordinate all other work necessary for ensuring high-quality, college courses in the high schools.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Regularly observe and evaluate concurrent enrollment (CE) classes to assist high school CE adjunct teachers in delivering high-quality college courses and teaching their students how to successfully navigate the challenges of higher education. Report and correct instances of impropriety, incompetence and/or non-compliance. Develop positive relationships with CE adjunct teachers and other high school CE staff and assist them with CE and general college processes and procedures.
  • Teach one SLCC class per year (typically in the summer) on the college campus during normal working schedule. Classes taught must be selected from the list of classes the liaison is overseeing in the high schools.
  • Work closely and regularly with the SLCC academic department(s), attending relevant department meetings, receiving training on the curriculum standards and expectations, and gathering data on the overall efficacy of the CE program as it relates to that department.
  • Assist with new high school CE adjunct teacher applications.
  • Coordinate and track annual professional development training for high school CE adjunct teachers.
  • Coordinate and assist with high school CE adjunct teacher syllabus review and tracking.
  • Attend CE staff meetings and serve on CE related committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in English Literature, Composition/Rhetoric, English, or Education (with an English endorsement), or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching college-level writing OR several years of experience teaching writing at the secondary level (also considering additional graduate courses taken, attendance at writing workshops, professional development, etc.).
  • Two (2) years of direct experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • College or high school teaching experience.
  • Experience working with concurrent enrollment.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a broad range of diverse people, abilities, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and to maintain good working relationships across the college and in the high schools.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and enforce rules and policies when necessary.

  • Self-starter and ability to take initiative with little direction or supervision.
  • Excellent time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in and foster a team environment.
  • Ability to learn and understand SLCC Concurrent Enrollment policies and procedures.
  • Follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle, or the ability and qualifications to operate state motor pool vehicle, with a valid driver’s license.
