$1012.00 /per load hour.

This is a part-time, temporary position not eligible for benefits.

Job Summary


 

The primary duty of the ESL adjunct position is to teach grammar, reading, writing and listening/speaking to non-native English speaking students in beginning to advanced levels of English as a Second Language.

Essential Functions


 
90% - Teach beginning to advanced ESL courses in grammar, writing, reading, listening/speaking, pronunciation for day (10:00 am - 1:00 pm)
OR evening classes (6:15 pm - 9:15 pm). Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining an updated syllabus for each course
  • Keeping good class records
  • Submitting all paperwork in a timely manner
  • Reviewing and periodically modifying lesson plans
  • Providing students with assessment/homework each semester, as stated on the class syllabus.

10% - Other duties:

  • Attend the once a semester SMCC ESL faculty meeting
  • Attend and participate in the yearly ESL Recognition Day ceremony
  • Participate in ESL program subcommittees and recruitment efforts.

Minimum Qualifications


 

1. A master's degree in the teaching field or a master's in any teaching field with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in one or more of the following academic areas:

  • Teaching English as a Second Language
  • Teaching English as a Foreign Language
  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
  • English as a Second Language
  • English Language Learning

2. EDU250-Teaching and Learning in the Community Colleges-or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire.
