South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Case Manager in the Personal Support Center.

The Case Manager reports directly to the Dean of Student Engagement & Retention, and will serve students by providing basic needs resources, intervention, and personal support to assist students facing stressors, crises, life traumas, and other barriers that impede student success. Exercising discretion and independent judgment, this position is responsible for the development and evaluation of student basic needs objectives, implementation of College policies and procedures, and student basic needs growth initiatives.

What You'll Do

Case Management:

  • Ensure that college, state, and federal rules pertaining to students are upheld.
  • Provide case management personal support for students; will assess areas of need and formulate intervention plans to minimize and/or resolve barriers.
  • Plan and implement a basic needs support plan for each student to provide direct service and resource support to include, but not limited to: financial assistance, food, childcare, textbooks, counseling, and other basic needs that impede student success.
  • Provide regular caseload audits. Document all student interactions, support provided, timelines of services, ongoing student needs, and other case management documentation.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and implement a weekly meeting with each student within the caseload. Implement basic needs functions in response to student needs on a weekly basis, including laundry and/or shower facilities appointments.
  • Assist students with crisis management regarding access and guidance to needs such as medical care, counseling, and other crisis intervention.
  • Develop and implement the Student Emergency Assistance (SEAG) grant program. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, accurate and timely grant report completion, CTC link codes application, and other required tasks for compliance and participation.
  • Develop, coordinate, and plan for services related to additional basic needs grants and community partnerships related to student medical care, mental health, childcare, or other areas of need. Will ensure clerical tasks are complete to ensure service to students, compliance, and participation.
  • Provide referrals to students, staff, and faculty for basic needs assistance.

Administrative support to the Personal Support Center and liaison with the campus and community:
  • Responsible for the quarterly Basic Needs Student Survey process. Will administer the quarterly survey, compile data, and respond to student needs survey requests. Collaborate with Institutional Research to capture quarterly basic needs data in a timely manner; respond to data and reporting inquiries as needed.
  • Develop personal support resources available for students to include website content and other materials to ensure resources are available to enhance basic needs support.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise the Personal Support Center student-employees. Assist with conducting interviews, selection, and processing of hiring paperwork. Will provide student-employee training related to departmental and college processes, procedures, and expectations. Responsible to schedule, support, and monitor the work of student employee job performance.
  • Assist in the development of presentations for campus and community outreach and education of campus basic needs services; in addition, develop and provide resource seminars and programs for student needs such as tax preparation, legal services, medical care, etc.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse community resources, as well as SPSCC faculty and staff to provide resource options for students.
  • Work closely with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Center, Adult Basic Education/Transition Studies, Student Life, Financial Aid, Foundation, Tutoring, Childcare, Counseling, and other campus partners to collaborate on supporting students.
  • Will represent Student Engagement at a variety of activities such as orientation programs, presentations, and other outreach initiatives on behalf of the basic needs services.
  • Actively create partnership and linkages with other community colleges and community partners through participation and leadership in statewide basic needs efforts.
  • Serve on campus committees as requested

 

Qualifications You Possess

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelors degree in related field or program OR equivalent education and three years professional experience
  • Experience providing support services, advising, counseling, etc., to under-represented student populations to include recruiting, providing direct support services, and maintaining a caseload of students.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations, solving problems and making decisions.
  • Experience contributing to a work environment that embraces diversity and uses diverse perspectives to enhance the attainment of organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-level customer service and excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work well with others, and function as a team member.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks, maintain office confidentiality and accommodate numerous interruptions.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Experience and/or leadership in serving, advocating for, collaborating with, and/or representing specific underrepresented marginalized communities.
  • Empathy - The ability and willingness to attempt to understand another person's culture orperspective through listening and inquiry.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Intermediate knowledge of software applications, specifically MS Office suite: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Experience with vulnerable populations, crisis management, and/or similar experience providing resources and referrals for emergency services.
  • Experience and/or an understanding of Thurston County basic needs community resources.
