Required: Masters degree in Communications, or closely related field. Experience teaching
community college and dual credit students. Experience with online teaching and learning.
Preferred: Experience working with ethnically diverse and rural student populations. Experience
working with underprepared students.

Salary: $64,500 to $70,000 DOE

Position Summary:


Southeast New Mexico College (formerly New Mexico State University Carlsbad) is seeking
applications for a full-time tenure track position in Communications. The accepted job candidate
will teach courses in Communications. The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for
the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction
and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. At a minimum, the
related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and
demonstrating a commitment to professional development through participating in local, state,
regional, and national professional activities and organizations.
The accepted job candidate will teach Introduction to Communication (COMM 1115G) and Public
Speaking (COMM 1130G) as well as developmental reading and writing courses as needed in a
5/5 teaching load.


Requirements for the Position:


Will be assigned to teach on a 9-month contract of 15 credit hours per semester. Carries out a 5/5
teaching load of 100 and 200-level classes. Holds regular office hours in accordance with the
policies established in the Faculty Manual. Teaching duties include teaching effectively to a
diverse student body, conducting ongoing assessments of courses, and developing courses.
College service commitments include participating in professional development activities and
serving on various committees for the benefit of Southeast New Mexico College. Faculty may be
assigned weekend and evening classes, and/or online classes. Evaluates student performance and
instructional methods using the colleges established system of assessment. Serves as a member
of the colleges various governance committees and task forces to promote
institutional/instructional efficiency and support a culture of learning. Collaborates with other
departments in regard to interdisciplinary projects, campus events, and instructional training.
Attends scheduled faculty meetings, department meetings, required training, and committee
meetings. Performs other duties as assigned. Since this position requires in-person teaching and
other in-person faculty duties, the candidate will be required to live within commuting distance of
Southeast New Mexico College.


Duties:


  • Delivers classroom instruction that supports the learning outcomes of the
Communications courses and developmental education courses
  • Must be willing to teach weekends and evenings as assigned
  • Must participate in professional development activities
  • Evaluates student performance and instructional methods using the colleges established
system of assessment
  • Serves as a member of the colleges various governance committees and task forces to
promote institutional/instructional efficiency and support a culture of learning
  • Holds regular office hours in accordance to the policies established in the Faculty Manual
  • Collaborates with other departments in regards to interdisciplinary projects, campus
events, and instructional trainings
  • Attends scheduled faculty meetings, department meetings, required trainings, and
committee meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned
