Duties & Responsibilities
Job Summary

The instructor will teach 15 load hours per semester of primarily freshman and sophomore-level communication courses in Public Speaking and/or Interpersonal Communication; serve on college committees, and engage in the course and program development.

 
 
Essential Responsibilities
  • The position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Humanities and will teach 15 credit hours per semester of primarily freshman and sophomore college-level communication classes.

 

  • Responsibilities will also include organizing and maintaining curricula in communications, developing and revising instructional materials as appropriate, keeping student records; assisting in recommending and orienting part-time faculty; and working with college councils and committees as assigned.
 
  • The instructor will maintain a minimum of five office hours per week and may be required to teach day, evening, and weekend.
 
  • Will be required to teach at the satellite campuses/local high schools as needed.
 
  • Performs related duties.

Qualifications

Required:
  • A Masters degree in Communication Studies or a related field is required, with 18 Graduate hours in Communication Studies.

 

  • One year of part or full-time teaching.
 
  • Evidence of valuing diversity and having a multicultural perspective with adult/minority students.

Preferred:
  • Two (2) years of teaching and/or related educational experience at a post-secondary level.
 
  • Experience with online and distance education instruction and interactive instructional methods.
 
  • A strong commitment to the community college philosophy.
 
  • Experience with traditional face-to-face, hybrid and online courses and the ability to use San Juan Colleges Learning Management System (Canvas) and technology-enhanced curriculum.
