Job Description Summary

Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a full-time faculty member in Energy Technology:

The Energy Technology instructor is responsible for classroom instruction in the Building Sciences Department. This includes organizing, preparing for each class, consulting with and advising students, and assessing student learning. The instructor will be administratively responsible to the Associate Dean for the School of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Professional Development.

  • Valid Journeymans card appropriate to area of instruction may be considered. Renewable Energy Professional (REP) Certifications may be considered with a minimum of 5 years full-time work experience.
In addition to a strong background in energy technology, we are excited to meet applicants who demonstrate and evidence strong teaching ability and experience in post-secondary education.
  • Candidates must express themselves clearly in both oral and written form and have good classroom and laboratory organizational skills. They must possess the desire and ability to work cooperatively, effectively, and responsibly with colleagues, staff, and community college students in a multicultural setting. Candidates must possess the ability to be trained in new technology as the need arises. Demonstrated willingness to keep professional skills and knowledge up to date is essential.
  • Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to use technology to support instruction. Experience with online instruction is desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Prepare lectures, demonstrations, multiple laboratory activities and teach 15 contact hours per week of apprenticeship related courses in multiple content areas and provide a minimum of 5 office hours per week for consultation with students.
  • Engage in on-going professional development in the subject area and in the teaching/learning process.
  • Act as the Faculty Lead in the Energy Technology area of the Building Science Department
  • Work closely with BEPD Faculty to develop curriculum, formulate procedures for testing, grading and assessment, and assist to develop overall Department policies.
  • Work closely with members of the School of BEPD in curriculum and program development, teaching innovation, student retention, testing, grading, assessment, and upholding overall School of BEPD policies, and the HFC mission and underlying principles.
  • Participate in shared governance by serving on Department, School of BEPD, College-wide committees.
  • Cooperate with the College community in meeting the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities both in the classroom and in the college environment.
  • Uphold the best scholarly and ethical standards of the discipline.
  • Foster honest academic conduct and ensure that evaluations of students reflect each students performance.
  • Demonstrate respect for students as individuals and foster a respectful atmosphere in the classroom or an online learning environment.
  • Demonstrate mastery of course material, come to class prepared to teach the days lesson (including preparing all handouts, exams, or other materials before the start of class), and present the material conscientiously.
  • Teach course(s) in accordance with the description in the Course Master and in accordance with Department and/or standardized course policies. It is recognized that the methods, procedures, and interpretations of various instructors may differ.
  • Be available for student consultations and provide guidance to students to promote student learning and success.
  • Meet all scheduled classes and final examinations and deadlines for grade submission. Grade and return written work to students in a timely manner.
  • Maintain appropriate records of students attendance, intermediate, and final grades; submit required reports to the appropriate office by the scheduled deadlines.
  • Develop and distribute an effective course syllabus, following the guidelines of College policies and incorporating required elements of the course master; adhere to the written syllabus throughout the semester, within reasonable limits; participate in the College course evaluation process.
  • Be informed of the Colleges support services for students and recommend their use, when advisable.
  • Notify the Dean or Associate Dean as soon as possible if unable to meet scheduled class session; schedule personal time to coincide with the College.
  • Responsible for performing, analyzing and reporting assessment of student learning.
  • Decipher complex plans, drawings, diagrams, blueprints and instructions in order to complete installation or practice troubleshooting of systems, parts or components.
  • Record information and results about product or performance by detailing testing methods, documenting possible issues and listing specifications.
  • Improve understanding and expertise in the field by regularly attending workshops, classes, conferences and training sessions in electronics and engineering.
  • Perform program and course assessment which helps the program determine how the curriculum is contributing to the learning and development of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
