The University of Surrey, School of Veterinary Medicine is the only school in the UK with a distributed teaching model. It aims to inspire and educate veterinary professionals who will advance veterinary medicine to meet the needs of a changing world. We embrace the traditional values of professionalism, scientific curiosity, and clinical excellence, while developing graduates with broad horizons. Our research aims to advance knowledge in all aspects of veterinary medicine and education.

We have a position available for a RCVS-registered veterinary surgeon (MRCVS) with an enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge and experience with veterinary undergraduates. The focus of this role is three-fold: to provide internal education to students in their first four years of undergraduate education, to partner with the profession, supporting students on external placements in their final year and to undertake clinical and pedagogical research in their area of expertise.

The role will ideally be offered on a full-time basis (36 hours per week, Monday-Friday).

About you

We are looking for someone with an intuitive passion for teaching. Prior academic experience is not a prerequisite, but some teaching experience is beneficial. Due to the nature of the role and the geographical locale of our partner practices, this post would ideally suit someone based in the South East of England. There would be a requirement to be onsite in Guildford each week to teach, and the remaining time would be split between home working and travel to our partner practices (travel cost will be reimbursed when you are visiting partner practices). Due to the travel involved, you will need to hold a valid driving license to be eligible for this position.

The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of first opinion practice across either companion animal, equine, or production animal. Applications from mixed practitioners are encouraged.

How we can offer

In return for your hard work we offer a generous pension, a holiday allowance of 30 days plus 7 additional university closure days and 8 bank holidays, CPD budget, opportunities to maintain clinical skills and relocation assistance. There is also access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including our Bright Horizons on-site workplace nursery, which has an excellent 91% parent satisfaction score.
