Position Summary

 

The Success Coach serves as a liaison between the College and area high schools to plan and implement advisement of college and career options using career assessment tools, career exploration activities, and exposure to business and industry. Program goals for the Success Coach include the following: provide early outreach to underserved students in grades 9-12, provide students with information and experiences about career opportunities, empower students to make educated decisions, improve the effectiveness of postsecondary advice given to secondary students, and understand how to best serve students by getting to know them on a one-on-one basis. The SSCC Success Coach must collaborate with area high school Counselors and Career Coaches to identify program participants. Career exploration activities and events will be ongoing throughout the school year in cooperation and support with program activities and events already planned by the high school Career Coaches. The Success Coach also plays an integral role in supporting Dual Enrollment for both the high schools and the College. This is a grant funded 12-month position; continued employment is contingent upon renewed funding.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborate with area high school Counselors and Career Coaches to identify and target underserved secondary students in grades 9-12 to inform them of college and career programs, high wage jobs in the region, and how to apply for financial aid.
  • Work with cohort students in area high schools to present CONNECT workshops allowing the Success Coach to make a connection with students to get to know them, their challenges, and their interests.
  • Provide high school students in grades 9-12 with information and experiences that inform them of college and career opportunities in Alabama and the level of education and skills required to be successful in various career fields.
  • Plan and implement industry and college tours collaborating with high school administrators, Counselors, Career Coaches, and business & industry representatives.
  • Coordinate and execute daytime summer camps on the Snead State campus for high school students including workshops, career fairs, and goal setting/planning/advising for the next year.
  • Assist students in completing Dual Enrollment paperwork including, but not limited to, applications, approval forms, Accuplacer testing, and registration.
  • Foster a customer service environment for fellow employees, students, and visitors. Be an Ambassador for the College. Support the colleges initiative to maximize retention of current students and enable students to finish their collegiate goals.
  • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the ACCS Chancellors Office, and the College.
  • Participate in College functions (Award and Honor events, Alumni Homecoming, Commencement, etc.).
  • Assume other work related responsibilities as delegated by an appropriately assigned College administrator.
  • Position requires employee to frequently and routinely travel to area high schools.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as position requires participation in off-campus and/or weekend workshops/events.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Rare but occasional out of town travel/ overnight stay/ participation in off-site training conferences is required.
  • Maintain accurate, secure data of all student information in the Colleges administrative software database and electronic scanning system while complying with FERPA and institutional policies
  • Exemplify quality customer service
  • Possess effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve with appropriate cognitive ability
  • Experience working with computers and software comparable to Microsoft Office products

 

Qualifications

 

Required: Bachelor degree or higher from an accredited institution or an Associate degree with two years documented experience working in a secondary or postsecondary school.

Required:
 Due to the nature of the Success Coach responsibilities, this position requires one to have a valid and unexpired drivers license.

Salary: Appropriate placement on State Salary Schedule E3, Grade 4: $38,979 - $56,128
