Job Description Summary

Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a Full-Time Faculty member in Music (10 month, tenure position)

Position Description Summary: The Full-Time Music Faculty instructor will be responsible for teaching music courses in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts for both music and non-music majors. Teaching assignments would include both lectures and instruction in-person or potentially online. This instructor will also be expected to participate in curriculum development, assessment, and other Department of Fine and Performing Arts, School of Liberal Arts (SoLA), and College-wide initiatives.

Core Competencies and Qualifications

 

  • Earned masters degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in music, OR a masters degree or higher in a closely related discipline with a minimum 18 graduate credits in Music .
  • Two semesters of full-time teaching experience (or the equivalent in part-time experience) in higher education at a level comparable to a community college.
Successful candidates must possess:

  • the desire and ability to work cooperatively, effectively, and responsibly with colleagues, staff, and community college students in a multicultural setting.
  • demonstrate a commitment to keeping professional skills and knowledge up to date.

  • have an aptitude for learning new technology as the need arises.
The most successful candidate will have a career that reflects the following:
  • Earned Master of Music (M.Mus.) or Doctorate of Music (D.Mus.) or equivalent degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience with program management and curriculum development.
  • Broad knowledge of music recording processes and equipment/gear acquisition/management.
  • Organizing, curating, and directing/performing in public events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties include but are not limited to:


  • Teach 15 contact hours per week and provide a minimum of 5 office hours per week for consultation with students.
  • Prepare innovative lectures, demonstrations, and activities that foster learning.
  • Assist in the coordination of music courses, including but not limited to maintaining syllabus templates, updating and distributing instructor guides, book selection, updating course policies, material distribution, instructor mentoring, and coordination with the Fine Arts Faculty Chair and School of Liberal Arts (SoLA) Associate Dean.
  • Incorporate the use of instructional technology into classroom and laboratory settings to facilitate learning.
  • Share in the responsibility of developing and coordinating assigned studios, including the organization and maintenance of music, instruments, and studio equipment.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development in the subject area and in the teaching/learning process. Work closely with faculty to develop curriculum, formulate procedures for testing, grading and assessment, and develop overall SoLA policies.
  • Work closely with members of the School of SoLA in curriculum and program development, teaching innovation, student retention, testing, grading, assessment, and upholding overall School of SoLA policies and the HFC mission and underlying principles.
  • Attend meetings of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, School of SoLA, and the Faculty Organization.
  • Participate in shared governance by serving on Department of Fine and Performing Arts, School of SoLA, and college-wide committees.
  • Participate in collegiate, professional, and community activities.
  • Cooperate with the college community in meeting the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities, both in the classroom and in the college environment.
  • Support student success by facilitating their navigation of college resources. Complete other duties as needs arise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The posted salary is the hiring range, steps 2 - 8. The position range is steps 1 - 13: $50,740.00 - $105,903.00
