Job Summary

Instructors for the Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (GED) will work in a classroom setting instructing students in Midland Colleges Adult Education Program.

Required Qualifications

An earned Bachelors Degree in English, History, Mathematics, Education or similar discipline from a regionally accredited institution

Strong organizational skills

Attention to detail

General familiarity with computers, Word, and Excel programs

Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external groups

Willingness to participate in collaborative projects with colleagues and instructional leaders

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in teaching adult students or high school students

Experience with curriculum design, curriculum implementation, and assessment of student progress

Experience teaching in different modalities to include face-to-face, hybrid, and online/remote

Essential Functions

Instruct students who have achieved varying levels of mastery in the subject matter area (Language Arts, Social Science, Science, and Math)

Teach students online, face-to-face, or a combination of the two modalities on a schedule as assigned by the TXCHSE (GED) Coordinator

Communicate effectively and appropriately with students

Integrate essential workplace competencies into the classroom setting

Report and interpret test results for individual students

Develop and promote a safe learning environment for all students

Provide tutoring and additional instructional support to students as necessary

Attend required staff meetings

Complete the required 15 clock hours of professional development as assigned through the state training portal by the programs Professional Development Coordinator

Participate in student registration and orientation functions as necessary

Other duties as assigned


Physical Demands

Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time

Use of manual dexterity

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

The person in this position needs to occasionally move from office to classroom


Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
