This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a “pool” of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. The advantage of “pool” positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.
Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions of this position include the following:
- Teach courses in the Dual Enrollment program on participating high school campuses
- Develop and evaluate curricula appropriate to the different learning needs of students as well as developing student learning outcomes
- Provide a classroom environment that promotes and stimulates learning for every student
- Use and stay abreast of current pedagogies and technologies that are effective in a diverse classroom as well as staying current with all requirements and regulations of state agencies that have accreditation authority over the program and its courses
- Consult with students during regularly-scheduled office hours
- Collaborate with other program faculty and staff to use assessment techniques to maximize the effectiveness of instruction and student success
- Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs in a timely manner
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters in chemistry OR Bachelors in chemistry or biochemistry AND Masters in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry OR the equivalent (see below)
Engineering
- Masters in any field of engineering OR Bachelors in any field of engineering AND Masters in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry or geology OR the equivalent (see below) (NOTE: A bachelors in any field of engineering with a professional engineers license is an alternative qualification for this discipline)
Network Engineering (the minimum qualifications listed above for Engineering are also applicable to this area)
- Masters or above in any field of engineering technology or engineering OR Bachelors degree in engineering technology or engineering AND Masters degree or above in physics, mathematics, computer science, biological science or chemistry OR Bachelors degree in industrial technology, engineering technology or engineering AND a professional engineers license OR the equivalent (see below)
Mathematics
- Masters in mathematics or applied mathematics OR Bachelors in mathematics or applied mathematics AND Masters in statistics, physics or mathematics education OR the equivalent (see below)
Business

Accounting

- Any bachelors degree or higher and two years of professional fashion design experience OR any associate degree and six years of professional fashion design experience OR the equivalent (see below). The professional experience required must be directly related to this teaching assignment.
Early Childhood Education
- Possession of a Masters or above in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR Bachelors child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education AND Masters or above in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies OR the equivalent (see below)
Digital Media
- Any bachelors degree or higher and two years of professional digital media experience OR any associate degree and six years of professional digital media experience OR the equivalent (see below). The professional experience required must be directly related to this teaching assignment.
Photography (Art)
- Masters or above in photography, fine arts, or art OR Bachelors in photography, fine arts, or art AND Masters or above in art history or humanities OR the equivalent (see below)
Equivalence to Minimum Qualifications
Degree Equivalence
The applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline. The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different.
Academic Background Equivalence
Related to disciplines in which a Masters Degree is not generally expected or available. The applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units of coursework in the academic field and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:
i) a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelors or Associates Degree, and
ii) a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by course work required for the degree major.
Professional Achievement Equivalence
The applicant must have completed the General Education requirements for that degree and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that his/her preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Successful experience in teaching or evidence of preparation to teach the full range of applicable discipline college courses
- Ability to work with and/or instruct high school students
- The ability to teach both theoretical concepts and practical skills
- A commitment to and proficiency in creating curricula and methods of delivery that reflect department standards and practices
- The ability to use instructional methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration and that reflect cultural sensitivity and interdisciplinary approaches to subject matter
- The ability to motivate students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds
- Experience in computer-based applications and modern technologies for teaching
- Knowledge of issues pertaining to training and employment in the applicable discipline area
- Experience or familiarity with the development of student learning outcomes and assessment, as well as program review
- An understanding of and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college, including the mission and values of the Colleges
- The ability to use teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become critical thinkers and independent learners
