Job Description

 

Position Summary

The Success Coach collaborates with local education agencies to increase the number of underserved students who enter and remain in postsecondary education. The Success Coach will focus on providing guidance into college and career pathways to identified high school students within the LBW service area.

SALARY
Commensurate with experience as determined on Salary Schedule E4, Grade 05 of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees salary schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local education agencies to create meaningful opportunities, early access, and awareness for students.
  • Work closely with local school administrators, counselors, and career coaches, to identify underserved students.
  • Provide advisement and early outreach to low-income students/first-generation college students and their families on the importance of postsecondary education, college programs relevant to their career interests, and how to prepare, apply, and fund their educations.
  • Provide high school students with information and experiences that inform them of career opportunities and the level of education and skills required to be successful in various career fields.
  • Coordinate LBW program visits for students.
  • Coordinate visits to business and industry partners and invite business and industry leaders to speak to students about careers.
  • Develop a calendar of upcoming events and activities for college and school administrators and staff.
  • Work with business and industry partners to identify career opportunities with the state and communicate those opportunities to school administrators, counselors, and teaching staff.
  • Advise students on the benefit of enrolling in academic and career technical education (CTE) and dual enrollment.
  • Work closely with dual enrollment staff and high school counselors to provide information to students and assist students with dual enrollment admissions/registration procedures.
  • Connect educationally disadvantaged youth and adults to “bridge programs” that teach basic academic skills in the context of training for advancement to better jobs and post-secondary education.
  • Provide information regarding available state and federal financial resources.
  • Assist students and families with completing applications for state and federal financial aid.
  • Assist with or develop financial aid workshops or events.
  • Develop promotional materials for the Colleges programs and services.
  • Draft and submit all monthly Success Coach performance reports.
  • Assist Student Services personnel as needed.
  • Serve on College committees as assigned by the President.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and College policies.

Qualifications

Minimum of a bachelors degree or the equivalent from a regionally accredited institution. One year of full-time work experience in a secondary or postsecondary educational setting. Experience working in areas of program or project management.
