Job Summary

Responsible for assisting childrens classroom teachers in the total care of the children.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED- verification required within 30 days of employment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Computer knowledge, including iPads
  • Good reading, writing, and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate positively with coworkers, parents, and children
  • Proficient in the English language
  • Must successfully pass an FBI fingerprint check and criminal history background check
  • The employee is required to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • College credit hours; related field preferred
  • Recent experience working in a licensed childcare facility or early childhood program
  • Knowledge of Child Care Licensing (CCL) Minimum Standards
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards, appropriate classroom management, and curriculum
  • Knowledge of ages and stages of development of children ages 4 months to 5 years of age
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification

Essential Functions

  • Know, implement, and adhere to the Texas Health and Human Services, Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards, Workforce Solutions Permian Basin Child Care Services criteria, Midland College Childrens Center policies, and Midland College policies
  • Dependability in attendance, adherence to all-time policies, positive job attitude, cooperation with parents, children, and staff, flexibility, willingness to accept change, and keeping up with the current trends in the field of early childhood development
  • Assist the teachers with daily routines
  • Assist in the implementation of childrens activities
  • Help with childrens physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs
  • Assist with lunch and snack setup
  • Assist with diaper changes and potty training
  • Light daily cleaning of classroom environment, disinfecting, changing linens, and doing light laundry
  • Assist with playground duties
  • Complete 30 clock hours of early childhood training annually to meet CCL guidelines from the start date
  • The employee may be required to participate in staff development activities as requested
  • Other duties assigned by the Director or Childrens Teachers

Physical Demands

  • Must be in good physical health, energetic, nurturing, and patient
  • Must be able to lift children up to 40 pounds to change diapers, assist with potty training, walking, bending, standing, stooping, reaching, squatting down, stretching, sitting on the floor, rising up from low chairs or when sitting on the floor, and must be able to participate with children on the playground
  • Ethical behavior, security sensitive work, team-oriented, cooperation with coworkers, secure work environment, confidentiality required

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
