Description
This is a professional staff position responsible for the Student Success Center (SSC) which supports college preparatory (Principles of Writing, Principles of Reading, Developmental Arithmetic, and Intermediate Algebra) courses, college credit courses, and/or vocational programs. An employee in a position allocated to this class will carry out responsibilities relating to the Student Success Center, will work in cooperation with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, and be expected to carry out assignments with minimum of supervision.

 

Examples of Duties

  • Coordinate overall function of the Student Success Center.
  • Act as coordinator of a CRLA certified tutor training program which includes, The development, assessment, and delivery of required training modules, Supervision of tutoring staff, Tutor evaluations, scheduling, and payroll.
  • Monitor budget expenditures and make recommendations to Associate Dean, Student Affairs.
  • Schedule and supervise TABE and PERT remedial instruction in the SSC.
  • Review and recommend computer-based instruction innovations to Associate Dean, Student Affairs.
  • Orient students to Lab operations and procedures.
  • Train student assistants in Lab procedures and support software.
  • Supervise the installation of new hardware and software in the Lab in coordination with the Technology Department.
  • Assess student remediation needs.
  • Work with individual students seeking academic assistance in the Lab.
  • Monitor student progress and report to Associate Dean, Student Affairs.
  • Perform large group presentations.
  • Cooperate with the College Recruiter to reach new traditional and nontraditional students.
  • Visit classrooms as needed or invited to inform students of SSC resources and assist instructors as needed.
  • Notify Technology Help Desk of printer problems.
  • Report damage and request repairs to building.
  • Proctor tests as needed.
  • Requisition office and educational supplies.
  • Create and post signs for building, college announcements.
  • Act as administrator of Navigate software which includes, Creation and launch of early alert progress reports, Student, staff, and faculty training, Troubleshoot and resolve end-user technical problems with Navigate Staff and Navigate Student.
  • Record keeping and reporting of utilized SSC resources.
  • Assist with TRIO services as needed.
  • Assist with Boot-Camp and Summer Academy students.
  • Additional Responsibilities as determined.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of academic skills testing procedures. Knowledge of computer assisted instructional programs.
  • Knowledge of Windows operating system. Knowledge of software installation multimedia equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively,
  • Ability to work with other units of the College in a cooperative manner.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in a related field. Experience working with youth in a community college or secondary school setting preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Light to moderate (Up to 44 pounds) lifting and carrying.
  • Use of fingers.
  • Walking.
  • Standing.
  • Kneeling.
