Duties and Responsibilities

Application Pool Notice
 Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester.  Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.
Position Requirements
 Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair, and/or Senior Director of Workforce Education and South Campus, Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs and in which the instructor has appropriate qualifications.  Use up-to-date discipline and pedagogical skills to ensure active participation and learning by students
 
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Stay current of changes that occur in discipline. Participate in departmental initiatives to infuse changes into curriculum.  Participate in interdisciplinary discussions which are directed at improving student learning and evaluating core competencies curriculum.
  2. Participate in college and departmental committees and activities. Substitute for colleagues as appropriate.
  3. Participate in meetings called by the PROVOST/VICE PRESIDENT OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS or department chair for the purpose of disseminating information, providing input into the decision-making process, and sharing expertise with colleagues.
  4. Prepare professional development plan in consultation with the Department Chair; review plan on an on-going basis with the Department Chair; work with assigned peer/mentor.
  5. Prepare, administer, and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner to inform students about their progress and to provide opportunities which will allow students to succeed. Use multiple measurements of assessment.  Include opportunities for research and outside assignments.
  6. Provide a safe environment for students and be responsible for the security of assigned equipment, materials, and classrooms.
  7. Encourage use of support services by students. Collaborate with support services staff to ensure that appropriate information is being shared and discussed. 
  8. Teach day, evening, Duals as required. Meet all assigned classes on time in the assigned rooms or lab and available to students 15 minutes before class and 15 minutes after class.
  9. Respond to requests for information from the PROVOST/VICE PRESIDENT OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS.
  10. Follow procedures related to the Registration Office, including grade reports and deadlines; attendance record reports; withdrawal deadlines; class changes; and time and room scheduling.
  11. Serve as peer mentor when requested.
  12. Promote the Colleges Programs and curricula.
  13. Follow the academic calendar and other policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Trustees.
  14. Perform other duties assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean of Workforce Education, or Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certificate with major in teaching field.
  • 5 Years recent work experience in the teaching field.
  • ASE Diesel Certification in area of instruction.

Preferred:
  • ASE Master Diesel Certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Should have an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Should be able to work with various types of audio/visual equipment and software.
  • Should have a good working knowledge of maintaining student records and dealing with sensitive information.

Physical Requirements  
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment 
Work is performed in a standard office environment.    
Work inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.
