Job Description:

Title: Early College Support Coordinator (Grant-Funded)

Unit: MCCC Professional Staff, Grade 5, Senior Special Programs Coordinator

Department: Education and K-16 Partnerships

Reports to: Dean of Education and K-16 Partnerships

Date: February 6, 2024

General Summary: Middlesex Community College (MCC) has been awarded two Early College designations by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education (DHE) and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The Early College Student Support Coordinator, working out of the Division of Education and K-16 Partnerships, will be responsible for the recruitment, retention, and management of Early College students. The Coordinator will direct the case management and academic planning for individual students and their respective retention and completion goals. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with early college partner high schools, MCC, and Early College team members to support services and develop interventions and success strategies for students in support of the Early College efforts aimed at increasing student persistence, retention, certificate/degree completion and successful transfer to four-year institutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Achieve individual student caseload retention and completion goals as established by the Early College/MCC Partnership
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of all EC student activities, communications, and related events.
  • Carry out and be accountable for individual caseload outreach and intervention
  • Create and manage student progress tracking dashboard
  • Empower students to develop and accomplish their personal, academic, and professional goals. Guide students to develop personal accountability for their decisions and an understanding of how those decisions impact their success
  • Maintain current knowledge of academic and occupational degree requirements, graduation requirements, transfer requirements, and pre-requisite requirements to advise students toward completion.
  • Exercise professional discretion and judgment, to help students create a personal education plan. Manage and advise student cohorts regarding course registration, admissions process, financial aid, career services, and other related topics
  • Contribute to the development and formulation of policy in alignment with grant parameters as required by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Handle confidential decision-making and policy-making matters related to student progress reporting
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Education and K-16 Partnerships, Director of Concurrent and Dual Enrollment, and Coordinator of Early College Programs to ensure alignment across related departmental initiatives and strategic goals
  • Refer students to appropriate internal and community-based programs and support services. Initiate contact with faculty, staff, and the Center for Student Success and other departments to assist students with questions and needs utilizing a total case management model.
  • Manage early alert interventions for respective caseload
  • Serve as a liaison with MCC academic advisors and departments. Attend departmental and advisory meetings to remain current on program offerings, career/occupational outlook, and other departmental information.
  • Develop student success, retention, and completion materials and presentations to support individual and group sessions
  • Act as a liaison between Middlesex Community College and Early College high school programs

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in education or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in an urban high school or higher education setting or case management experience.
  • Ability to work autonomously, and collaboratively, and use independent judgment with staff at Middlesex.
  • Ability to make independent decisions regarding program implementation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and developing data reports.
  • Knowledge of presentation methods and techniques, project planning, goal setting, and group dynamics, customer service techniques including excellent phone skills and technology-related communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle high-volume student interactions during peak periods.
  • Self-motivated to perform job duties and meet goals without extensive direction.
  • Ability to speak effectively in front of large, small, and diverse groups.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence clearly and concisely, provide well-thought-out details and perform data entry and retrieval, and utilize complex computer programs and software.
  • Ability to assess situations, identify problems, propose solutions, develop strategies for improvement, and demonstrate follow-through with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret policies, protocols, and guidelines
  • Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, and varying physical and learning abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited university or currently working towards Master's Degree completion.
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Previous experience developing and implementing outreach plans and success strategies.
  • Knowledge of early college high school and MCC academic programs, requirements, and processes as they relate to Early College students.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $63,288 is the starting salary for a Grade 5 position with a Bachelor's Degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience. Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford or high schools as needed

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire. This position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
