Job Summary

Full-time Math Faculty members will provide quality education for students through teaching developmental and/or transfer Math courses. Faculty members will develop teaching and testing materials for classes, uphold the colleges mission, and foster effective working relationships with students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree with 18 graduate hours in Mathematics
  • Knowledge of general classroom instruction
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Mathematics
  • College teaching experience
  • Ability to integrate technology into curriculum design
  • Familiarity with online teaching platforms

Essential Functions

  • Teach a minimum of 15 lecture equivalent hours (LEH) each Fall and Spring semester
  • Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy and Administrative Regulations published in the Faculty and Employee Handbooks
  • Assist in the scheduling and staffing of mathematics courses
  • Help prepare a recommended budget for the department, recommend purchases of equipment and supplies, maintain and control use of equipment and supplies
  • Recommend textbooks and instructional materials to be used in the instructional program
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum
  • Assist with educational counseling and program advising of students
  • Assist with writing and development of proposals seeking funds or property for the Mathematics Department as requested
  • Coordinate with appropriate Midland College personnel to recruit new math students as requested and work to increase enrollment in the Mathematics Department
  • Stay current with trends and innovations in the field
  • Maintain professional status through classroom participation, organizational memberships, advanced study, publication and/or community related service
  • Help to orient new full-time and part-time faculty; this may include working with the dual credit mathematics instructors
  • Serve as a resource to the College, professional, and educational communities
  • Maintain academic records as required by the College, accreditation agencies, and law
  • Successfully teach academic courses in the Mathematics Department as evidenced by student evaluations and grade distributions
  • Assist with development of goals and objectives for the department
  • Work with math organizations and seek scholarship opportunities for math students
  • Contribute and seek undergraduate research opportunities in mathematics
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to move from office to classroom occasionally
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Office and classroom setting

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Min Salary

$53,954 per year

Max Salary

$65,944 per year

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
