Job Summary

The Dean of Public Service will oversee the EMS and Fire Technology Programs, Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Programs, Paralegal Program, Education and Early Childhood Education Programs, the Helen L. Greathouse Childrens Center, Manor Park Childcare Center, and the Cosmetology Program. The Dean of Public Service will assist the Associate Vice President of Workforce Education in fostering workforce collaborations, oversight of curriculum and program development, and student recruitment.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Education or related field
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated leadership or oversight of curriculum development and faculty
  • Effectively manage time and priorities to meet established deadlines
  • Work and communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers and other external contacts
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to manage several departments and work cooperatively with staff and students
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Must possess a valid Texas Drivers license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Education or related field
  • Community College experience
  • Practical work experience in a related field
  • Supervisory and teaching experience

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership for planning, implementing, evaluating, and coordinating the educational programs of the Public Service Division
  • Develop and maintain relationships with educational, industrial, and municipal partners
  • Manages, plans, and coordinates the development and expansion of programs and departments
  • Oversee the recruitment of students and program enrollment
  • Evaluate existing programs to ensure that community interests and workforce demands are met
  • Serve on the Curriculum Committee and oversee all curriculum reviews and changes; work with faculty to ensure current and comprehensive curricula
  • Revise and approve catalog content
  • Participate in strategic planning for the instructional area of the College
  • Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and grants for the division
  • Evaluate and make recommendations regarding instructional equipment and facilities
  • Serve on committees as assigned
  • Recommend new programs, when appropriate, to meet the Colleges mission
  • Facilitate communications within the College and between the College and the community
  • Oversight of regional, state, and national accreditation processes for any public service programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campus
  • This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Duties indoors and some outdoors
  • Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
