Job Description
The mission of the Anoka-Ramsey Academic Advising Office is to empower students to actively seek out resources to successfully complete their educational goals. Academic Advising provides a safe and respectful environment to collaborate with students on course selection, understanding degree requirements, and preparing for degree completion or credit transfer to other academic institutions. Each student is assigned an academic advisor who practices Appreciative Advising methodology.
The Assistant Director of Advising serves as a leader of a professional team of academic advisors. This position provides leadership and direction for the department, schedule coordination, and project management for the Advising Center to ensure efficient and effective operations. This position will lead, coordinate, and manage all new and transfer student onboarding programs, establish operating procedures and processes, including orientation budget, program goals, and work plans for projects in the Advising Center. This position also leads and lends strong support to retention initiatives, transfer partnerships, and departmental operations.
This position will be located on the Rapids campus. This position is eligible to telework up to two days per week. The hiring manager and the successful candidate will work together to determine a schedule that meets department needs.

Required Qualifications
  • Evidence of a strong and clear commitment to students with diverse perspectives and from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience providing leadership and work direction to other advisors, clerical/administrative staff, graduate-level interns, and/or student employees.
  • Technical skills including a working knowledge of student information systems such as ISRS, ServiceCloud, ImageNow, DARS, and MS Bookings.
  • Associate degree with 4 years of professional experience in student services, advising, orientation and/or project/program management; OR
  • Bachelors degree with 3 years of professional experience in student services, advising, orientation and/or project/program management. Prefer Bachelors degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree preferred. Prefer Masters in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain working relationships with students, staff, faculty, administrators and other constituent groups.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development and various learning styles.
  • Understanding of state and federal statutes and regulations to ensure compliance with all facets of a project/program.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to diverse audiences and motivate others through written and oral presentations.
