Position Summary:
The Biology Instructor (Exercise Science Program) position is a full-time faculty position that includes instruction, office hours and professional contributions to the college community to create an innovative and engaging learning environment.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Biology Instructor (Exercise Science Program) position is a full-time faculty position that includes instruction, office hours and professional contributions to the college community to create an innovative and engaging learning environment.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development of the Exercise Science Program and courses as well as teach courses in that program including program assessment and program review.
- Teach preparatory, first and second-year college-level courses in Biology, with an emphasis on Human Anatomy and Physiology, General Biology and Human Biology.
- Continued leadership and maintenance of the Walk to the Moon program and the Colleges Gold standing in Exercise is Medicine.
- Teach a diverse student body in daytime, evening and Saturday classes on the main campus, extension centers and business and industry sites.
- Ability to teach courses in multiple modalities (face to face, blended, virtual and online).
- Participate in area and faculty meetings and in applicable College committee activities.
- Prepare instructional materials for the Biology area.
- Participate actively in curriculum planning, syllabus writing, examination development, textbook selection, developing department materials, mentoring part-timers and program assessment/evaluation/revision.
- Be flexible in terms of teaching schedule assignment.
- Participate in other activities as needed by the Biology department.
- Continue professional development in order to keep up with new teaching techniques or technologies, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours during fall and winter semester
- On campus presence at least four days per week during the academic year
- Being a professional faculty member at Washtenaw Community College is a year-round responsibility which includes curriculum development, professional improvement and development, and other professional responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Earned Masters degree or higher from a regionally-accredited institution in Biology, Zoology or biology-related field OR masters degree with minimum 18 graduate credits in biology or zoology disciplines required. Earned credential as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine may be eligible. Biology- related fields/disciplines include but are not limited to: anatomy, animal science, botany, cytology, cell biology, environmental science, entomology, epidemiology, genetics, limnology, microbiology, molecular biology, physiology, and zoology.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching through the equivalent of two (2) years full time teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
- Demonstrated experience in developing Biology teaching materials.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong preference given to people with two or more years experience teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology and General Biology.
- Equivalent of two (2) years full time teaching experience at the community college level.
