General Function

The Senior Academic Advisor is responsible for providing holistic academic advising to students from entry to completion while providing oversight, direction, and serving as a team lead to entry level advisors. The Senior Academic Advisor assists in further developing and refining Academic Advising processes, incorporating a guided pathways approach to create a seamless transition for students into academic programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Advises students in our One College Model. This includes Corporate and Continuing Education (CCE),
College and Career Readiness (CCR), and Curriculum (CU) students.
2. Creates special programming that supports career exploration in programs of study in collaboration with
Career services.
3. Serves as a liaison to programs within Academic Affairs and collaborates with departmental faculty in
connecting students with mentors, career fields, and programs of study.
4. Develops additional expertise in program of study career pathways, guided pathways, processes, and
systems and shares that expertise through training and collaboration.
5. Offers additional support and programming to targeted student caseloads, including, but not limited to
undecided students, health science students, African American and Latino males, readmitted students, and
honor students.
6. Manages Standards of Academic Progress (SOP) escalations as well as classroom early alert
interventions.
7. Assists department in advising assessment design and implementation.
8. Represents department in outreach activities on campus and off-campus.
9. Supports the Director and Assistant Director with marketing resources and activities designed to engage
and retain students by connecting them to support, career goals, social and networking activities.
10. Develops and shares knowledge of current best practices in serving community college students.
11. Supports the Director and Assistant Director in monitoring the activities of volunteers, interns and part-time
staff at various campus locations.
12. Participates in college and departmental evaluations as part of the annual review process.
13. Utilizes technology that supports best practices in case management advising strategy (such as Aviso,
Colleague, Student Planning).
14. Participates in outreach activities such as speaking to classes, presenting in departments, and supporting
Student Affairs activities.
15. Participates in a comprehensive professional advisor development training.
16. Participates in college and departmental evaluations as part of the annual review process.
17. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Student Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, or related area and 2-3 years of student advising experience at the college level, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
